A pleasant surprise!
Dr. Michael Owen review my book "Ethics on Trial", and it was published in Research Management Review.
Gives me some hope that we’re finally beginning to see the difference between reviewing research and protecting the people in it.

At long last “Ethics on Trial – Protecting Humans in Canada’s Broken Research System” is published. 🎉
This book is a clarion call to action, urging governance reforms to fully protect research participants’ rights, safety, and welfare.

It’s a surreal and humbling experience to see my 35+ years in human research condensed into a single book.
“Ethics on Trial: Protecting Humans in Canada’s Broken Research System” will be available in bookstores this summer (Dundurn Press, 2025).
No holds barred!

Canadian federal government lacks oversight of Canadian privately funded clinical trials. @jparente.bsky.social: "That should be on the informed consent form: 'This study is being funded by a private stakeholder and therefore, should anything happen to you, you're shit out of luck'".
Please consider signing our petition for the adoption of an independent, objective, third-party oversight and accountability program for human research in Canada.
A program has been in place for decades for animal research!

This was written 3 weeks after the Hamas attack on Israel. Fascinating piece comparing Isreal's response to that of India after the attack by Pakistani militants on Mumbai in 2008.

Hi Peter - so glad to find you here. Best wishes for a peaceful, healthy and prosperous 2024.
So, Trump is arguing that if he’s not on the ballot in Colorado, 1M people will be disenfranchised. Yet, Colorado removed him from the ballot because he actually tried to disenfranchise 81M people. Hmmmm.
