Yeah Pokemon tends to get away with a lot of bad practices. I personally stopped giving Pokemon $$ at sword/shield+Pokemon GO because of how anticonsumer their products became. Every time I enter a discussion online about it though the fans come out in droves to die on the hill in defense of Pokemon

To be fair they've also always gotten away with effectively selling loot boxes to children in the form of The TCG.

Society has blind spots, especially with children's products
