Lack of a Highway Patrolman electric take hurts a bit but never exkected to get any of this.
All the snippets in the promo sound incredible.
Nothing will ever top Late Night with the Devil. Felt like a solid 5 minutes.
Jon's books are brilliant. If you're a Henson fan this will be well worth a purchase.
There is nothing but nothing like test cricket. The highest form of sport imo, incomparably rich in psycho-drama, interweaving narratives, tension and redemption.
It's Altitude here, so both cinema and (hopefully) disc release.

excited for the trade reporting on SINNERS to evolve into “sure, it’s a big hit with great reviews and an A Cinemascore…but what if it HADN’T been? the only movies that should exist are sequels to the Cod Shit franchise”
So happy for Sean Baker, someone who lives and breathes cinema, constantly supporting theaters and home video labels loudly and publicly. I hope this is only his first award of the night #oscars
So yes, my sniffy Oscar-hating friends, in the long run, the Oscars DO in fact matter, like it or not. Not only for the film's physical survival, though very few Oscar-winning or even nominated films are lost. But also in terms of how hard it will be to see the film years from now. 3/3
Meaning, "Eh, is it worth our while?" Modern corporate executives don't give a flip whether pointy-head critics and academics and nerds think this ancient black-and-white film is beautiful, artistic or important. But wait! Does it have an OSCAR? OK, maybe normies do care enough to pay for it. 2/3
Good morning! I've never done my "Why Oscars Matter" spiel on bsky! So here 'tis. I talk a lot to programmers and archivists about how hard it is to get corporate permission to screen rare films, let alone restore them. The FIRST question the suits will ask is "Did it win an Oscar?"
Every. Time.
10 years ago, a Michael Mann cyberthriller bombed at the box office; today, BLACKHAT has a reputation as one of Mann's best films this century. For Inverse, I wrote on how the hacking action film (hacktion?) is a robust, expressive look at humanity in crisis.

31 years since The Simpsons "Bart Gets an Elephant" and absolutely nothing has changed.
The Gold Brothers never met a cheap and tacky trend they didn't immediately jump on.
Mikey Madison deserves the superlatives and Yura Borisov is just superb in a supporting cast which is an embarrassment of riches.
The encroaching sadness in the third act lands more of a gut punch in amongst the chaos.
Sean Baker remains one of the very best filmmakers working.
Nice to see ANORA playing to a relatively packed house at the tail end of its release (who were all very into it).
Think it's solidified as my favourite of the year so far.
Had a go at a starter pack. If I’ve missed you out it’s probably because I don’t know you’re on here. Or I was just sloppy. Give me a shout if you want added.

Please tell me there are fewer deranged Oppenheimer takes over here?
