One of the most famous mosasaurs, Tylosaurus proriger, submerges after taking a breath. It is dark above and light below, as tentatively suggested by some palaeocolour data. The challenges of interpreting scaly reptile palaeocolour, and the tiny scraps of colour data we have for this animal, preclude much confidence in chromatic interpretations of this species, however. Also, if you stare at this long enough, you'll see a few sharks. No foolin'.
Been thinking marine-reptiley thoughts today. Here's one of my latest #paleoart efforts along that line: Tylosaurus proriger. The colour is based on fossil colour data, although it's far from certain that this animal was black and countershaded.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 2961:
Your voice is unique. It’s a combination of many factors: your upbringing and background; the books you’ve read; your personality. Some people may not like it, but it’s yours. Keep it authentic. Trying to sound like someone else is a betrayal of who you are.

Anyone else think it is one of the dumbest, most ridiculous, most insane things ever that Perseverance's sample tubes have just been... abandoned on Mars? The science in those tubes could be revolutionary & they're just going to sit there, watching dust devils twirling across the skyline.

Duncan Jones released a superb movie called 'Moon' back in 2009 (you should seek it out and watch it right now) and what drew me to it was the model work, old-school miniatures filmed on set.
They're superb. I always wonder what happened to the models after filming. Are they on a desk somewhere?

Unsolicited writing advice, no 14:
Rejection sucks. But any writer who tries to explain their lack of success by saying “readers like trash” or “publishers don’t appreciate real quality” has no business expecting to attract readers, or a publisher. If you want respect, you need to show it.
Politics has unexpectedly hit a special interest of mine so here is a quick rundown on the Avignon Papacy.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 107:
People read books for all kinds of reasons. For some, it's fine writing and a literary style. But for the majority of readers, it's a story that pulls them along, characters they're interested in, a door they want to step through.
Classics friends may enjoy this. Some of the Latin pronunciation is a bit weird, but the essence is spot on! 😆

Weyland-Yutani-37B Cargo Lifter Sled from the film Alien Covenant, A large grey rectangular flatbed spacecraft with powerful maneuvering thrusters mounted on the four corners and a small wedge shaped industrial cockpit on the front to the side. The rear quarter includes a pair of main engines and a crane for loading cargo on board.
Gerry Anderson's Space 1999 TV series - Eagle Transporter. Painted white, there are four large pods with maneuvering thrusters and sturdy landing gear mounted on the corners of a long but narrow rectangular box girder frame. The egg-like front cockpit resembles a squashed spinning top with four black triangular windows mounted in a sturdy cruciform frame. There are several bare metal, bell-shaped engine nozzles on the rear of the spacecraft.
Awesome conversion. Can't wait to see it painted.
It's like the WY-37B Cargo Lifter Sled from Alien Covenant and a Space 1999 Eagle Transporter had a baby.
