I’ve been in transition the past couple of weeks, moving out of Portland for good and also moving out of the community studio I was working in to a beautiful new shared studio. So many feelings about all of it.

I’m right there with you, Lucy- it is definitely not the time to stop-it’s also our time to encourage folks coming up behind us to keep going—Especially now!

It’s been a year since I left Portland not knowing if I would return. The time has come to move out of my beloved Portland studio. Feeling so many things, grateful for the few wonderful years I had here.

After stencil & color application I etch the dots, then add my other signature markings. Post bisque I wax areas that I want unglazed, stain, and then finally, glaze the piece. For some, this process may seem lengthy but for me each step is a making journey from which the soul of the work is born.🦋

I make all the newsprint transfers that I use to add blocks of color. This work is done ahead of time so when I sit down to decorate, I have everything ready to go. This process allows me the freedom to inquisitively approach the decoration phase of my process with immediacy.

My approach to surface design of happens with a sort of controlled spontaneity. I spend a lot of upfront time drawing personally meaningful images, that then get turned into stencils, which I hand cut one by one. After years of creating stencils I’ve amassed a large image library to work with.

Since we’re all just getting (re)acquainted with one another here on this new platform I thought it would be nice to share a little insight into my process.

Hi Friends,
Excited to try out this new platform and to be able share more directly like the good ol’ early days of social media. I’m already seeing friends & fellow makers that I lost track of because of IG’s algorithm. It’s good to see you again!
