I said thank you and goodbye to Reid and Dave with a tear in my eye at The Bad Plus Farewell Tour show at Jazz Alley in Seattle tonight.
Dave King was on absolute fire. He has been such an inspiration to me.
(ALSO - BRING RATIONAL FUNK BACK!) 🤣😎

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers “Free For All” comes out this Friday in a new Classic Vinyl Edition! The set includes Wayne Shorter’s powerful title track & Freddie Hubbard’s churning piece “The Core” dedicated to the Congress of Racial Equality. Listen or pre-order: bluenote.lnk.to/ArtBlakey-Fr...
Sick groove! Love it!
Why don’t we focus on getting rid of this vile hideous threat to democracy, the US, and the world, and then you can be all nit picky with your purity test. This is the only issue that we need agree on at the moment and, until resolved, there is no future for ANY of your positions. <smh>

Dave King inspires me. JP Bouvet also interviewed Dave this week - watch on JP’s YouTube channel.
Oasis “Definitely Maybe“ 1994
I need someone to explain this band to me. Talented and well-produced. But, like, in the mid-90s there were many similar sounding bands. No shade at all, but what made this band into superstars? #1001albums

1001 Albums you must hear before you die! I have a link in the comments to a page that will serve up an album a day, if you would like to play along. (Jazz version coming soon!)

Hey man - I get it that you need to prioritize, but I just want to say that I miss your posts and hope that you will be back.
@jazzpolicebigband.bsky.social Great show tonight at the Aurora Borealis! Smoking solos, hot charts new and old, tight rhythm and intonation. It is always a pleasure to hear you!
Fewer and fewer will recognize that clever reference to Bloom’s work.
Just bought a copy!
Well, damn, that is quite an endorsement!
Ah, sorry, context... X-files was a sci-fi show popular in the US in the 1990s. There was an episode where a black goo was found on a ship that allowed alien possession of whomever contacted it. So, I was making a very obscure joke.
Wasn’t this an X-Files episode? 🤣
My husband is a trumpet player - I married him anyway. 🤣 I look forward to the selection of music you post daily.
Coincidentally, a recent interesting backstory on the song (and Motown music industry) from a YouTube creator I follow.
Ah! This song unlocks two memories from the 1980s for me. The Big Chill included this song (but not this version) in the movie soundtrack (1983). And this led to an animated ad campaign a few years later featuring “The California Raisins” (1986).
