I get that they are different cards and we can't necessarily use one to inform the other. But Garth is the only(?) other effect that does this. I'd think that if just copying the card that was in the yard worked within the rules they'd would have gone that route and save some text.

In Chicago you'd said they were created outside the game. That does track because we're not just "copying the card" with the ability from Magar, it's "Creating a copy of the card" using the noted name to pull the card from the oracle a-la Garth.
