This packing insert from a robot vacuum looks like it should be guarding a temple somewhere.

I thought the problem was more that most CPUs can't decode state-of-the-art compression for a 4K screen @ 60fps (or not without getting crazy hot), so video gets splintered by platform according to what hw acceleration is available. i.e. software alone can't solve it?
The Skylab toilet was a hit with the astronauts and helped inform the design of the next chapter in orbital elimination, the Space Shuttle toilet. One piece of feedback from Skylab was that the toilet needed stronger airflow. This meant the Shuttle toilet opening had to be narrow. To practice correctly positioning their body, astronauts on Earth sat on a special training mockup with a camera mounted in the center of the waste tube. A successful docking with the device meant precisely centering oneβs nether eye in the crosshairs of a video screen while crewmates looked on and yelled their encouragement.
Game idea for the Crystal Maze, if ever I heard one

Congrats, they look like they're planning a heist
had the same thought, but poignant after crossing the US _off_ the list last year
I have to say, Charles Cecil & gang at Revolution Software have done a great job remastering their old Broken Sword games. It's nice to see and a lesson to all devs - IP matters. Even in 20-30 years. You-never-know. Keep your IP. Anyway, new Kickstarter. www.kickstarter.com/projects/rev...
I listened through this week, absolutely lovely album.
One less loading screen in the world π Go further! Launch straight into offering to load the most recent save, when there is one. With the "live preview" that'd be really frictionless continuity.

I can use it but I've built up 25 years of defences against its decay: filtering the ads, swiping away the AI answer, skimming over the SEO gibberish that overwhelms their index for some searches etc.

AI style is rotten for creative writing, but it's so willing to read and explain code. 50+ years of free software out there and good documentation is so rare.
I worry the economics will come down to earth, and it'll become unaffordable for most of us quite soon.
Congrats Philippe! Which bit are you going to?
How ridiculous of NASA spending billions of pounds to come up with the non-stick frying pan. In the weightlessness of space, the astronauts' sausages are just going to float right out of the pan. If anything, they should have been developing something to make them stick. J Boxbury, Norfolk
Happy Easter.
I nearly bought another Leaf (I had a 2015 model for 7 years) but was swayed at the last min by a 2022 model Hyundai Ioniq Electric. I get 5-5.5 mi/kWh from it compared to 4 on a warm day with the Leaf. Its 39kWh battery gets 170-180 miles, a range estimate that's accurate, and CCS charging.

If you add more people to a software development project it will slow it down, not make it go faster.
But devs have trained users to accept a slow-responding touch screen as normal. Users know it's cheap. A physical button that doesn't respond quickly is broken. So more physical buttons means things are going to work more reliably.
Ahhh that pilot wrote an Experience column for The Guardian a few months ago, awesome story.
IME as a developer on a couple of indie launches, Reddit & Steam were great for mopping up bugs after launch, I look forward to them. Early players seemed keen and helpful, even when the game was slightly broken! [not denying there were also less helpful comments]

I loved reading Land Of Roar to my eldest! The 6yo is currently working through the Montgomery Bonbon books by @misterabk.bsky.social which are (I mean, obviously) brilliant and clever and funny. Though we sometimes need to draw diagrams to explain the reasoning, she wants to know every detail π
