The most scary encounter I had so far on a cycle path. Have carriages licence plates or other identifying features? I was quite terrified and we ran our school cycle bus on that route just 5 min earlier.

Minister for Justice Jim
O’Callaghan is redefing human rights. To my knowledge fuel is not a basic human right. A warm home yes, but this can be heated with renewables. Also a car is not a human right. I don't support the protest, but neither this rethoric.

Issue Network Wohnen

The president speaks genocide The words, the law, the future

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
These are the words of the president of the United States, today.
The president speaks genocide. And so we too must speak. Not only about crimes, but about their legal punishment.

Keep calm and be transparent: advice from scientists who retracted their papers Retractions correct the scientific record, but they have stigma attached to them. Some in the research community want that to change.

We're thrilled to announce the Ctrl-Z Award, a US$2,500 prize for researchers “who discover substantial errors in their published work and take meaningful steps to correct the scientific record."

There indeed is so much to fight for, and in some countries (looking at you, US), some old fights have become new fights.

One thing (academic) men can do is not participate in manels! It can be uncomfortable at times but it is also still necessary. Here’s my experience: 🧵

Large families and the forgotten children in contemporary family research Join this event to hear Dr Stephan Köppe explore the role of large families in social policy research.

Are large families being overlooked in today’s social policy debates?
This Thursday's seminar explores why families with three or more children still matter, and how welfare systems shape their lives.

A must read. The most shocking for me is: 1) AI companies pay 'campus ambassadors' to undermine campus teaching itself. 2) students are encouraged to upload lectures to train AI. On the latter I might have to ban recordings allowed for access students.

Irish fathers discover their kids??? No. It’s only 10 years since the State started to support new dads to take time off to care for their babies (now 11 weeks paid leave in baby’s first two years).

I’ve some words here on what’s and who is behind our improving division of work & care.

We welcome the Tánaiste’s reassurance that new laws will not make cycling without a helmet a crime.

While using helmets is important for cyclists, this law would have criminalised cyclists rather than users of high speed motorised bikes, scramblers and scooters, and dangerous drivers.

Bicycles do not require numberplates in Switzerland, even most e-bikes and cargo e-bikes don't

However, if your e-bike can go faster than 25km/h it is classed the same as a moped and must have a license plate...

...which is exactly the same as the law here in Ireland, only here it is not enforced.

Should we try this? Would it be enforced?

In France's Lot-et-Garonne area, drivers using a mobile phone while driving will face an immediate six-month licence suspension and a €135 fine, in addition to other penalties applied at the national level elsewhere. www.connexionfrance.com/practical/de...

No space for cycle paths in plan for street which is primary route in Dublin’s cycle network plan A Dublin City Council presentation to local area councillors wrongly outlined that Golden Lane is a secondary route in the statutory-backed Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network when it is designated as a primary cycle route with the policy expectation that it would be upgraded to that level. In the GDA plan, Golden Lane (highlighted on the map in a yellow box below) is a Primary Orbital route -- the same status as routes such as the quays, Dame Street, and the North Circular Road.

The main issue here is that cyclist crossing a red light or not having lights on is a very visible violation of the law. As the report highlights, speeding violations and mobile phone use by drivers is largely invisible, but as prevalent. Still, this morning I also observed cars breaking red lights.

U16s are banned from e-scooters, so how can adding high-vis or helmets laws make them safer? -- How does it make sense for teens who are already banned or over-16s who are using illegal devices to be stopped by Gardaí for not wearing helmets or high-vis? Comment & Analysis: A Government plan to add a legal requirement for scooter users to wear high-vis and helmets when most problematic e-scooter use is already banned, but just not enforced, worrying shows that the Government is edging further away from evidence-based road safety and further towards Kafkaesque methods.
