Yeah! It isn't a groundbreaking story but the visuals for it are absolutely incredible.
And like, using hand-drawn elements to supplement a shot. You can't forget that this is an animated movie. You are reminded every single time that you are watching something that can only exist in this world with this medium.
Like the texture work, animating characters on 2s and 3s and 4s when appropriate, impossible camera angles or camera speeds and impossible apertures. Everything feels like it is being pushed in a way to make every frame a piece of art; that if someone is going to work on it it should be GREATNESS.
Watch GOAT again last night and Sony's animators are really on a whole other level right now. The things they're doing are just... like, it makes you really appreciate animation as a medium because what they're making feels impossible to adapt any other way.
