Home - Monmouth Coffee Company

It's not hard to get good coffee in London. Edan, I recommend Monmouth, though there are also many other good sources of beans. www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk

I agree with the general idea that Daniel Hannan is likely to be the stupidest person alive who is capable of feeding himself, but the posted quotes are by fellow moron Dan Hodges

From the Guardian article. "While the costs overruns are driven by facilities, the cuts are landing on physics grants as the science funding body UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) seeks to "do fewer things better" and prioritise applied research over more fundamental science."

From the Guardian article. "While the costs overruns are driven by facilities, the cuts are landing on physics grants as the science funding body UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) seeks to "do fewer things better" and prioritise applied research over more fundamental science."

And this, from the Guardian piece, gets to the foolish choices that have been made. We do not need to do fewer things better. We need to do more things better. We need to invest more. That's the only way to make the fundamental discoveries we need to deal with a changing world.

Quote pulled from the Nature piece. "Speaking at a parliamentary committee hearing in London on Tuesday, Ian Chapman, the physicist who leads UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), said that the high quality of the United Kingdom's research and innovation base is its only competitive advantage over rival nations."

This (pulled from www.nature.com/articles/d41...) is utterly true, despite decades of government underinvestment leading to the current catastrophe. The intelligent choice would be to put more investment into research, fundamental, translational, and applied.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I watched much of Ian Chapman's (Head of @ukri.org) appearance this morning at @ukparliament.parliament.uk Science, Innovation and Technology Committee..

A few points and new information that bioscientists may find interesting...

While my sympathy is limited, a 23 year old tech nerd with likely no media experience giving cringey answers to the FT about working 90 hour weeks and eating steak is probably less deserving of our dunks than the billionaires and VCs that have convinced him this is how he must live to be valued.

They're certainly supposed to be, which makes this especially amusing. I also have been served ads for diapers (I have no children and no interest in diapers), car rentals (I last rented a car several years ago and have no recent interest in same), Disney+ (hate mice), and hotels in Liverpool

I'm trying to read this paper and Nature Communications is serving me an ad for what appear to be crotchless panties
