Not to mention it's making it harder for all kinds of creatives to find work or to make an income (just look at the D2D debacle). So don't, under the guise of supporting an author you happen to meet, go supporting and feeding more into the creativity killing machine.

...ffs, read them the way I provide them. Because word choices matter, and I spend hundreds and thousands of hours agonizing over them.
The machine won't care about reading flow or subtext, it just translates. It won't ask me to clarify like a real translator would.

She was worried it wouldn't translate perfectly. Who knows? Who cares?
Lady, you don't have to read my books if you can't read English.
There's thousands of authors, hundreds also from your local area, who write in German and could use more readers.
But IF you choose my books...

Since I live in Germany but write in English I often get weird reactions from people who want to read one of my stories, but feel like they can't. The most recent one considered to my face that maybe she could run my books through a slop machine for translation.

Maybe a select few. People who get a private zoom call. Those successful enough they don't constantly have to justify their existence in author space. So much of this industry is already people sneering down their nose at smaller authors. This feels like more of that.

The reason to go with them was convenience. Ease of tracking sales, ease of creating one account, and uploading books once, dealing with one company instead of 20.
I hope they'll realize that once authors create those accounts and move away, most won't be coming back.

I'm not sure it will even do that. Slop authors operate on quantity. They can throw 3000 books at the market and see which one sticks. Even if they make peanuts on each book, those peanuts will add up.

I really hope they'll rethink this decision, because it will hurt indies, not slopsters.

Every time I start to write about the #Draft2Digital fee announcement, I realize I'm angry ranting and I have to stop myself. But I'm livid. Also, I've made $2.38 through D2D this year so far. I won't be paying for the privilege of having my books on there, no thanks.

I'm about 150 pages from finishing my current readthrough of my vampire book. Everything is flowing well. But the real nailbiter is whether the newly changed ending will fall into place or need more work. If this goes well, I may be offering ARCs soon. Wish me luck.
