We have a lot of Afghan refugees right here in the city, and I've been worried about this a lot since there are two families in my immediate neighborhood

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

For the Monday crowd: please circulate this widely.

It may be hard to find the perfect candidate (an experienced data engineer/architect generalist with an interest in cultural heritage willing to take a state salary), but it's a great group/mission/city and we know the right person is out there.

Here's a thought: don't just boycott the building contractor, but every company that hires the building contractor. Make the job too toxic for a company to take

Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.

So while I have no real intention to use LLMs for any purpose whatsoever, there are a lot of very useful applications for computer vision, machine learning, to improve accessibility, quantification, etc. that aren't deleterious to the environment

I think the negative use cases of generative AI/LLMs far outweigh the positives, for example accelerating the spread of disinformation. But there are very useful technologies that get lumped in as "AI" which are not artificial intelligence as such, but accelerate pattern recognition

A post on the TrueAnon subreddit titled "The US navy has entered the 'please believe our sailors are being fed' phase of the American century of humiliation" The post itself is just a screenshot of a tweet from the US Navy that says "Fresh meals. Full service. Mission ready. Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Tripoli continue to receive regularly prepared meals--no interruptions, no shortages" followed by four nebulous photos of supposed troop-feeding action.

A closeup of one of the photos that seems especially egregious in its veracity. One of the kitchen workers is blindly passing two loaded trays of food across the chow line with a giant metal partition right in front of his face. Things that make u go HMMMM

How Silicon Valley Humiliated the Democrats When will they learn? The party remains far too solicitous of an industry that’s rewarded their fealty with four years of Trump and untold damage to democracy.

"Democrats need to break from this path and acknowledge that billionaires—especially those in the increasingly antidemocratic tech sector—are never going to side with them over the GOP." From @alexisgoldstein.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2087...

Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here

Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse

Media and universities: AI is here to stay
