A program in Flint, MI, gave $1,500 to any/all pregnant people and $500/month for the first year of their infant’s life.
Among the benefits, those babies experienced lower rates of prematurity and low birth weight, which resulted in fewer NICU admissions, saving the city of Flint $6.2 million/year.

Hey artists!! Post some art you made from before Bluesky!!
This is shocking terrible news. Matt was a kind person and a very positive force in manga. We will miss him.
Three picture books: Nonsense! The Curious Story of Edward Gorey; Millie Fleur's Poison Garden; Strega Nona.
My daughter's excellent (and aesthetically cohesive) selections for bedtime reading tonight.
Finally saw Detective Pikachu. It was deeply strange, and I didn't hate it.

So happy and honored that this podcast talked a lot about my manga! If you're curious about the book or still wondering whether to read it, I highly recommend listening to this episode.👶
Volume 5 of Natsume's Book of Friends.

I just finished reading a nice little book about Maurice Sendak, written by Gregory Maguire (who I also just learned is gay), which is partially why this is on my mind.
I also just love picture books and have the distinct pleasure of reading a lot of them with my kids. We read a ton tonight.
Edward Gorey, Tomie dePaola, Maurice Sendak, Arnold Lobel...I bet there are more that I'm just not thinking of/not aware of being gay.
What incredible artists, though, seriously.
When I think about my formative artistic/literary influences, a not insignificant number of gay picture book author/illustrators come up.
I wonder if this indicates something about me, or about the state of children's book publishing from the 1970s-1990s...

Also, my kid never cares about what I make her, but she actually enthusiastically wears this cardigan, so...it's all about the rainbow for her, I guess. 😂
Crocheted top is made with secondhand yarn from a Knitcrate, rainbow cardigan made with Hobbii Rainbow cotton (can't remember the size...), and the big granny cardigan is made with Cascade Whirligig, which is still super discounted at my local yarn store, and I am tempted to buy more...
A woman posing in a crocheted top that is red, burgundy, and teal.
A child with their back to the camera, wearing a rainbow-striped mesh cardigan.
A red, black, and purple crocheted cardigan laid out on a bed.
A quick roundup of a few favorite things I've made this year. Most recently was the red/burgundy/teal granny square top, next most recent was a rainbow cardigan for my daughter, and way back in February, the coziest granny cardigan in the world.
Thank you! I will keep that in mind. I did order some metal ones (I have a bunch of needles that I somehow inherited, but they're all enormous), but I can probably pick up some bamboo ones easily.
seriously, my office is a crime scene. How do I get any work done?
James is going away with his mom and I'm about to be alone with the kids for a long while. I'm taking time off work, so hoping to do a lot more making...and organizing my damn house.
I've been crocheting a lot. I'm going to try to learn how to knit (I don't know why I'm so intimidated by it, but here we are).
Coming out of my crypt to say hi, and also that I was at ALA a couple weeks ago and I am going to continue to encourage you to use your local library.
I've fallen out of the habit of social media, but I'm still alive. I still love books.
