No I don't hang out on Fifth-point-five-th street much, but I'll check it out soon.

5th north of Cedar is a hotbed of modern architecture. It's surprising. I like it.

I'd appreciate hearing the practical method by which he intends to take over investor-owned utilities. He loves to hand-wave about microgrids and distributed assets. Great, but how does he ensure that everyone in the state benefits from those, leaving no community behind?

It is probably not possible to discuss this 280 characters at a time without eventually sounding like a gigantic racist, but at least acknowledging that "immigrant" isn't a solid category, and immigrants come from different places for various reasons, is good.

In fact mayorships in city manager cities should be outlawed somewhere in the government code.

I just don't know why anyone thinks that the at-large representative from a city manager city is ready to be governor of a state. Roughly the same qualifications as a part-time substitute jr. high band director.

Despite economists' crackpot theories about efficiency, there are in fact $20 bills laying around all over the place. This information asymmetry in action.

I don't think so, I just think that in the process of having to get the two parcels rezoned, they probably just discovered the opportunity and took it.

The buyer owns and is developing two lots across the street on the same block. It goes to show the value of highly local knowledge.

Berkeley bought this land more than 50 years ago using redevelopment funds and did nothing with it. It offered it multiple times to not-for-profit groups, non of which acquired it. Now the city will sell it to a private party, subsequent to an unsolicited cash offer. I wish I had thought of that.

Doesn't it feel like it should be pretty easy to design a machine that just drives along repaving bike paths?

I emailed the webmaster to fix.

Is that how you read that? To me, it reads that the highest Hilton+Bianco numbers are from 4th gen/non-immigrant (ha!) with decreasing support in 3rd and 2nd.

You can't expect a New York socialist to storm the ramparts of settler-colonial capitalism without a horse.

I meant what kind of permit you want to use

Outside my territory, but this New York local special election has some incredible content. The candidate that Willett calls "comrade" in the tweet is the one backed by billionaire landlords in a 2022 primary, where she explained that landlords are fine actually, because they are not developers.

Why isn't this consolidated with the June primary?

Yeah totally. It's wild that you can ask them for that and it works. Sometimes, Gemini Pro under its own initiative and I guess because it's bored of my questions will blurt out a little JavaScript app with sliders or text boxes where I can change the parameters and constraints.

With public works?

By contacting the city email address? I requested a rack in front of a cafe on University Ave on behalf of the owner ... Honestly the city should proactively do that. But I never heard anything back and it's been a year.

Yeah? I haven't tried lately but Gemini is definitely not improving. If I want it to make a drawing it is still much more likely to work if I force it to write a program to draw the drawing.

So it's entirely possible to get an AI to manage your baseball team, but you have to ask it for things it can realistically do. The chatbot mode of interaction isn't it.

You have to put them into an environment where they can function: one that contains a structured source of facts and some facility that the model can call to check whether it's succeeding. This is how software developers use models. They provide tests and specifications.

This isn't a way to succeed with AI. You can't expect them to manage your baseball team in paragraphs. For a demonstration of this, ask Gemini Pro to draw a diagram of your living room based on written dimensions and description. It will be a mess! Instead...

Instagram video that says So look, this tree right here, that tree, all these down there, these trees

Developer for affordable housing at West Oakland BART is proposing to clear cut all of the trees here ๐Ÿคฌ

I understand removing trees for the building, but many of these trees are street trees that are no where near the structures

Save mature trees!

This is really a failure to cull car lanes when needed. I would like to see this tied together with street safety.

The Alameda County Assessor released their annual report. This is the punch line (ignore the screwed up column names, I guess).

Berkeley was up 4.5% to $32 billion, just ahead of the average city pace.
