I tried to order How to Win a Trade War at my local independent bookstore, and my cool teenager interrupted and warned me not to....so the surprise of my Mother's Day or Anniversary gift is spoiled. And, now it is clear that I will be listening to the audio book, not reading it anyway... :-)

Coffee is good. Trade wars are bad, right? I guess I need to wait for the book.

This was very good! So good we watched it on the big TV in the living room, even if the cool teenager said "this looks really boring".

I can't wait for the stories about why everyone was all wrong about the economists being all wrong about the tariffs.

Coffee is full of antioxidants, and lots of other magic. The introduction of coffee in Europe and the start of the renaissance are not a coincidence.

The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:

@toddtucker would love to see more from you on how you think this is going to work. (Or how it should work).

Forcing the removal of Colbert is not a good sign for the future of industrial policy.

After a few months off, I am back on #TheEconomicsShow! What better way to restart than to chat to Swati Dhingra, MPC member and trade economist.

We chatted about lots of things, including why she hasn't been voting for *even* larger rate cuts

Stop! Can't we just enjoy the 232s we have? Do we really need more? Maybe 232s are like dolls, two or three is enough, we don't need 30.

This description of 50-yrs of bipartisan human rights diplomacy is bonkers:

The bureau for democracy, human rights and labor, Mr. Rubio said, had become a “platform for left-wing activists to wage vendettas” against conservative foreign leaders, including those in Poland, Hungary and Brazil.

Opinion | Why are Democrats pulling their punches on Trump’s disastrous trade war? The party is blowing its chance to mount an offensive against protectionism.

This country needs an unequivocal, full-throated condemnation of pandering protectionism. Let this be the moment that liberates the Democratic Party from the populists tying them to the same mercantilist, regressive, costly command-and-control economic policies that so often drive Trump’s agenda.

Starting to think that we should sort out a general agreement on trade and tariffs, perhaps housed under some sort of world trade organization. Let's keep the region strong with some kind of of north american free trade agreement. Perhaps a trans pacific partnership could soften China's influence.
