NEWS: A federal judge has saved the 15th Street protected bike lane (for now), saying the decision to remove the lane running from Constitution Avenue to the Tidal Basin was "arbitrary and capricious and not the result of reasoned decision-making." It was to be removed this week.

More to come; but the 15th Street Bike Lanes will stay for now!! Here's the conclusion of the 61 page decision ... THANK YOU for your support! Wanted you to hear it from us first ... CONCLUSION The Court finds the decision to proceed with the 15th Street Cycle Track Removal to be arbitrary and capricious because the record does not reflect that the defendants examined the relevant data and articulated a rational connection between the facts found and the choice made. It further finds that the defendantsโ invocation of the highway modernization categorical exclusion, and their conclusion that the Removal Project would not have a significant impact on public health and safety, to be arbitrary and capricious as well. Therefore, the decision to proceed with the Removal Project as described in the March 31, 2026 NPS Decision Memorandum and the March 31, 2026 NPS and FHWA Categorial Exclusion documents, as well as in the February 23 NPS and February 27 FHWA Categorical Exclusion documents to the extent they were not rescinded or nullified but only elaborated upon on March 31, is hereby VACATED and REMANDED to the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration. This means, as counsel for the defendants acknowledged on the record at the hearing, that the decision is null and void, and the Removal Project may not and will not proceed on April 23, 2026. Given the ruling in plaintiffโs favor on the merits, plaintiffโs request for interim relief is denied as MOOT.

Alex and a pair of bike racks and her bike, grinning
A bike rack outside in the snow with a cargo bike on it
Like look at these bike racks I requested!! @ddotdc.bsky.social installed them pretty quickly and now a rec center and community center have well utilized bike parking! ๐ cc: #TranspoBingo
It hasn't worked properly for me since at least 2025 (tho it was def busted earlier), thus me giving up and using the website. I refuse to toggle around as it seems to get worse each time, and I honestly bookmarked the website on my phone like an app ๐ค
IF YOU BUILD A BIKE LANE THAT DOESN'T CONNECT TO ANOTHER BIKE LANE THEN YOU DIDN'T BUILD A BIKE LANE
In DC you can submit a 311 request (I prefer the website now that Twitter is the bad place and the 311 app is broken). Easy peasy, and one of the quicker and most satisfying requests you can do thanks to the amazing bike folks at DDOT! #BikeDC 311.dc.gov/citizen/s/

It's not enough. Demand more from your city because the stakes are too high.

Baltimore has had success in lowering crime by providing youth opportunities instead of relying on punitive measures. Why arenโt DC leaders interested in this? We should be learning from Baltimore and trying new approaches.
Gee, would any other DC Council members like to accidentally reveal they use resources if their office for their political campaigns....?
And this is the second ride on my birthday weekend! Come ride with me on Saturday or Sunday!

Yessss! Edgewood, Brookland, and MBT folks, life is about to get better!
"They were so lucky I was looking"
Ummm no. Stopping in time for a child running onto the street is not heroic/lucky, it is your goddamn obligation as a driver. Cost of entry. Kids are allowed to be unpredictable, you are not.
DC: tomorrow is the first day of one of my favorite springtime events - the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild plant sale!
The FMGG grows vegetables year-round, and distributes them to local groups that serve the hungry. The plant sale is their main fundraiser. Iโm going to pick up some seedlings
My Urban Arrow now has over 8,000 miles on it. Almost every single mile replaced a driving mile, many of them also with passengers. E-bikes, especially cargo e-bikes, can change cities if we let them.
A curfew announcement for the Takoma Rec Center area
This is real dirty work by @dcpolicedept.bsky.social and @mayorbowser.dc.gov: a juvenile curfew zone that surrounds just a playground, rec center, ball fields and pool that REMAINS OPEN after the curfew is in effect. The whole point of these facilities is to be a place for kids to go?!
Holy crap! Guess I will find myself over there soon!
We are sending a letter to DDOT asking what they are doing to make the Kansas, Georgia, and Upshur intersections safer. Several months after Kenny was killed there have been no safety improvements & no indication anything will change.

I know office of the tenant advocate has some kind of law/info about when you can put rent into an account until the landlord fixes a problem, but maybe someone can point you directly to that? Not my forte, unfortunately.

Itโs a telling indicator of media desensitization that the US governmentโs ongoing program of murder on the high seasโwhich according to the perpetrators has killed fourteen (14) people this weekโ is no longer a subject for much serious or sustained news coverage.
