There is No Consensus on Biological Sex At this critical moment when misinformation about sex is being applied to policy globally, scientific clarification on the definition of biological sex is valuable. Here, we evaluate the primary…

"The fact that there is no current consensus of biological sex is not
antithetical to science... However, the field urgently needs an ethical
and reproducible approach for discussing sex"

Enjoyed getting to chat invasive corellas with Channel Nine News. Perth and Bunbury have large flocks of corellas established from aviary escapes and now naturalised. They are poorly studied and no longer being actively managed. We have commenced research on their ecology and genetics.

White sharks vs. killer whales: white sharks not always fearful of kil White sharks vs. killer whales: white sharks not always fearful of killer whales While killer whales (Orcinus orca) can trigger immediate departure of white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias)

Are white sharks really fleeing every time killer whales show up? 🦈

New research from @flindersuniversity.bsky.social, published in @wildliferesearchj.bsky.social suggests the story isn’t so simple.

Very cool study of mummified cheetah feat. ancient genomes (and a nostalgic reminder of my original dream to do a PhD in cheetah genomics) (alas it was not to be) (fish are pretty cool too though)

Honestly, mostly just scramble something together myself πŸ˜… find using examples of other heritable traits (language or accent works well!) but would also appreciate some good readings haha

Tangentially related but always advocate the "heritable β‰  genetic β‰  adaptive" logic. Important first step for debunking a lot of evo psych nonsense imho

Probably depends on the person, but I find it pleasant! Not quite as droning as some other species over east...

A tick-tock cicada, Physeema quadricincta! Pretty common in the Perth area (and broader SW of WA) in summer, responsible for that near constant ticking sound you might be hearing.

They're pretty abundant on campus at Joondalup! And definitely hear a few of them at my place in the northern suburbs
