It’s not understandable. Trump and right wingers couldn’t care less if organizations like CALICO survive. The people he cares about make more per second than any academic visiting would spend in a week. It’s smug and self-righteous if you ask me.

The academic orgs and businesses like hotels and restaurants are the ones that suffer, not Trump. He couldn’t care less, and in fact would be happy if academic orgs go bankrupt or fold. The only thing you’re really helping by not going is your reputation with your US-bashing friends I guess.

The only way to fix this post-Trump will be to rewrite the Constitution to severely limit the powers of the Executive Branch. I doubt that will happen in my lifetime. How else?
