Little 🧵 on vetting:

There’s been a certain amount of chest-puffing from former holders of DV clearance about how rigorous and exacting the vetting process is and how rare for it to be overruled. The latter is definitely true. Never heard of it happening, ever.

Even worse - the resale of your own tickets are subject to a 15% surcharge (I think that’s the amount), but whatever it is that same fee is charged to the buyer. So they are making and additional 30% on the resale price!

Sadly… McGee / Macneil and Forbes would disagree - what is in essence a song with a driving bassline, keyboards and drums.

Yeah. Made up when I discovered the date was a WarChild benefit - so figured they had something up their sleeve for that. Feel sorry for Tuesday and Thursday night attendees.

Did like the UB40 collab he did. Probably offended many though.

This week, Brexit finally killed our family business. We cleared out our warehouse, handed back the keys, paid the final bills and said goodbye to our last employee.
What was once a thriving firm died a slow, sad death, all thanks to Farage, Johnson and the gullible idiots they conned. 1/18

MPs urge UK government to halt contract giving Palantir FCA data access Awarding US spy-tech company deal involving sensitive financial data is ‘huge error of judgment’, Liberal Democrats say MPs have urged the government to halt its latest contract with Palantir, after the Guardian revealed the US spy-tech company is to gain access to a trove of highly sensitive UK financial regulation data. The Financial Conduct Authority, the watchdog for thousands of financial bodies from banks to hedge funds, has hired Palantir to apply its AI systems to two years’ worth of internal intelligence data to help it tackle financial crime. Now, before you get too excited, it's worth pointing out that Reeves is not exactly the first Chancellor to talk about further fiscal devolution to the regions, and she did insist that the reforms would be fiscally neutral - so about shifting power rather than allowing mayors to tax the hell out of their voters (which is, let's face it, unlikely anyway).
But as well as making local and regional government much more important and prestigious in political terms, it would also allow mayors to respond to the needs of their local economies with far greater agility. And that could lead to better-performing and economically stronger towns and cities outside the south-east of England - if the design is right. Or indeed, if Reeves gets a chance to do anything more meaningful beyond simply producing a map.

b) its local government, not mayors, that deliver the services that people rely on in their everyday lives. Doing the same for local government would be genuinely radical and, IMO, the only way of heading off the threat from the populist right

Mark Thomas: how to define Nigel Farage – and trip up Ukip Paul Fleckney: The comedian and activist revisits the successes and dangers of his 100 Minor Acts of Dissent tour

I prefer the @markthomasinfo.bsky.social definition:

Farage: (noun) the liquid found at the bottom of a bin or waste container.

Usage: “There’s a leak in the food waste and I’ve dripped farage over my slippers.”
