Hot tub game boy! (Clap, clap, clapclapclap)

I had forgotten that was a thing, and now am intrigued to track it down!
HELLO FELLOW CINEMA ENJOYERS!!
This month's stream will have to be delayed until next Tuesday—horrific as it is to consider film at other times—due to some sudden but overriding IRL stuff which necessitated being away from the stream control booth for the night.
THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING!!
I watched all of 12 Oz. Mouse, and a big part of that was because it was clearly being made by people who were testing the fences of how much weird nonsensical shit they could get on TV before anyone noticed.
They walked so Eric Andre could freeze frame at just the right time.
I find myself thinking about my time watching ‘00s Adult Swim, for reasons.
It was always edgy, but 15-20% of the time it would cross the plane into “intentionally hostile toward the audience” (complimentary).
Less “let’s sneak poo poos past censors”, more “this shouldn’t be on TV and we know it.”

Welp, there’s something I need to track down.
I’m in a similar place. I’m here for absolutely all things Danhausen, but they haven’t quite made the case for the other 7 hours and 57 minutes.
There are certainly matches I wanted to see, even ones I was excited about. But the event overall failed to clear the “pay $30, rearrange kids bath times, and monopolize the TV all weekend” threshold.
I’ve watched WrestleMania virtually every year since the Network was a thing. Had it marked on my calendar for months. And on the eve of the show, I looked at my DVR backlog of Wheel of Fortune episodes and was like, “yeah, that’s probably fine for this weekend.”
Some of the finest stained glass McDonald’s ever produced! Which one do you like better? For me, it’s got to be the Hamburglar/Mayor McCheese, but I know Grimace is pretty popular!
Today was one of those “tinnitus is kicking my ass” days.
I’ve long maintained that I do not regret cranking so much loud music when I was younger. Today was the closest thing I’ve ever felt to “yeah, should have turned that down.”
The Elam Ending! I’m still a big fan of the idea and would support it in the NBA.
To this day, my wife and I say stuff like, “Now imagine how exciting that game would have been if he hadn’t missed all three Daily Doubles.”
I watched a basketball game where they would kill the clock at 2 min left, set a target score of the leader’s points +7, and play to that total to add drama to the ending.
The game was still a blowout, and the commentator said, “Now imagine how exciting that would have been if the game was closer.
At least 15 years ago, on a trip to London, my wife and I heard a small kid on the Underground ask why they were going to a particular stop, and she shrugged and said, "Could be bad, could be good, it's an adventure!" And we still use it to justify trying something out of our comfort zones.
Post your favorite Steamed Hams edit! This one is on my workout playlist.

Steamed Hams full transcript Well, Seymour, I made it- despite your directions. Ah. Superintendent Chalmers. Welcome. - I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon. - Yeah. Oh, egads! My roast is ruined. But what if I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? Delightfully devilish, Seymour. Ah- Skinner with his crazy explanations The superintendent's gonna need his medication When he hears Skinner's lame exaggerations There'll be trouble in town tonight Seymour! Superintendent, I was just- uh, just stretching my calves on the windowsill. Isometric exercise. Care to join me? Why is there smoke coming out of your oven, Seymour? Uh- Oh. That isn't smoke. It's steam. Steam from the steamed clams we're having. Mmm. Steamed clams. Whew. Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouthwatering hamburgers. I thought we were having steamed clams. D'oh, no. I said steamed hams. That's what I call hamburgers. You call hamburgers steamed hams? Yes. It's a regional dialect. - Uh-huh. Uh, what region? - Uh, upstate New York. Really. Well, I'm from Utica, and I've never heard anyone use the phrase "steamed hams. " Oh, not in Utica. No. It's an Albany expression. I see. You know, these hamburgers are quite similar to the ones they have at Krusty Burger. Oh, no. Patented Skinner burgers. Old family recipe. - For steamed hams. - Yes. Yes. And you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously grilled. Ye- You know, the- One thing I should- - Excuse me for one second. - Of course. Well, that was wonderful. A good time was had by all. I'm pooped. Yes. I should be- Good Lord! What is happening in there? - Aurora borealis. - Uh- Aurora borealis at this time of year at this time of day in this part of the country localized entirely within your kitchen? - Yes. - May I see it? No. Seymour. ! The house is on fire. ! No, Mother. It's just the northern lights. Well, Seymour, you are an odd fellow but I must say you steam a good ham.
Today is officially the 30th anniversary of Steamed Hams. On April 14, 1996, "22 Short Films About Springfield" aired for the first time!
Yeah, that’s definitely my favorite album cover of his!
If you’re scrolling down and are seeing this one last post, do jump to the top of the thread, that’s where the time traveling detectives and goofy cab drivers are.
Last one for tonight. The later in his career, the bleaker his stuff gets. This one is a standout in that it’s not as dark as the context it lives in on the rest of the album. The beat and songwriting reminds me a lot of a B-Side from a VAST album, and that’s a compliment.

No video, just music from here out. “Mission in Life” is my official snow shoveling anthem. From the point of view of a bartender at closing time just trying to hold everything together; it doesn’t seem to be working, but he still gets a sense of purpose from it. youtu.be/DZDJXEIZh70?...
“Goin’ Southbound”, a song about a person getting an orientation speech while joining a sophisticated ring of thieves. Features a pretty hilarious deployment of “suddenly there is a fan blowing.”

“Drive, She Said” from The Big Heat album. Another noir story, this time from the perspective of a cab driver that becomes an unexpected accessory to a bank robbery, and mostly copes by way of snacks.

Starting with “The Big Heat”. This is the one that hooked me. A song about film noir detectives that echoes Twin Peaks 4 years before that could be possible. In the bridge, it takes a wild left turn talking about a newspaper from 1992 (this song came out in ‘86).

About 8-9 years ago, I got really into Stan Ridgway, and he’s still in rotation to this day. It’s hard to sum his style up in an elevator pitch; the best I can come up with is “Spaced out adenoidal cowboy storyteller having a bad day.”
He’s very much a storyteller, here’s a thread of some faves: 🧵🪡
Congress Street in Portland, Maine has gotten slowly but surely nerdier over time. It’s nice to have a good quality escape room, board game cafe, comic shop, gelato place, theater, decent food, and pinball arcade*. within a 6 minute walk.
*Arcadia is the BEST pinball in Maine. Possibly New England.
Wedding anniversary weekend included three escape rooms, two huge diner breakfasts, one Craig Ferguson stand up set, and no kids.
Plus lots of board games, and a nice stretch of time at the Maine Mall, one of the last busy and thriving malls in the state.
Pretty relaxing for a busy weekend.
