Map of local temperature trends from GISTEMP from 1970-2025. It's warming faster over land than the ocean, more in the North than in the South, and most of all in the Arctic. Red covers the regions that have warmed more than 2ºC - which is basically all NH extratropical land areas. Sorry.

If I happened to have one spare ticket for Angine de Poitrine's London show on 11th May, is there anyone who'd be particularly keen to see them?...

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Seeing quite a few people consider Linux as they find out that perfectly good hardware won't be supported on windows 11. Contemplating doing similar for a desktop computer that still gets some usage in our house. Anyone recommend the best How to Switch to Linux guide?

Sam Altman Says It'll Take Another Year Before ChatGPT Can Start a Timer An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.

Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*

Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

Too Successful to See How Much Trouble They’re In. The growing number of people whose prosperity is more brittle than anyone wants to admit — and why our silence about it is making everything worse.

New:

Why being relatively well-off doesn't necessarily make you safe from the economic brittleness of the climate chaos — but it does make the risk you face harder to see.

This is exactly why I oppose #AI. @privateeyenews.bsky.social are right on the money with calling out the level of oppression enabled by AI.

Cartoon by Bernard Hage:

Title How to watch the collapse of civilisation

1. A bearded middle-aged man sitting in a chair, looking at his phone. He's slumped forward, his posture is terrible; a broken red line traces the curve of his back, and there's a red X next to the picture.

2. The same man sitting in the same chair looking at the same phone, but this time he's sitting up straight. A broken green line traces his straight spine, and there's a green tick next to the picture.

It's a great piece. More information is definitely not always a blessing – but even knowing the ability to find out is there can be enough to drive you mad if you end up fixated on that.

This is not just sad or embarrassing or unfair. This is a crime in itself (certainly under the EU AI Act which of course doesn't apply in the UK, but I should think many countries have laws about deception over telecoms) but also a vector by which serious fraud is conducted. 1/2
