Yes, but not high enough on the political agenda. But articles like this are to put the ideas out there and get more people talking about it.
Had the pleasure of working with @andrewlensen.bsky.social, @andrewtychen.bsky.social, @ethanplaut.bsky.social and @srhastraea.bsky.social on this piece about New Zealand's chance to lead on Responsible AI. theconversation.com/could-nzs-ne...
Importantly there were claims that it wasn't just phones, but also home assistants and smart TVs as well. But again, really hard to find evidence that it's actually happening (and I think analysis of the energy profile and network activity of some of these devices suggests it isn't).
I remember this coming through, although it's not clear if it ever eventuated, but your point about it potentially being a small sample of individuals is quite important. futurism.com/the-byte/fac...
(I use a different tone of voice for RNZ Nights [more chatty/casual] than I would for Morning Report or Nine to Noon [it's serious time for serious people])
Slightly surreal because I did the interview for nights like two weeks ago and they didn't tell me they were clipping it for this morning. I believe there are patents and the technology exists, but there's limited evidence to suggest it's happening all the time (especially after lawsuits).
quite disappointing that somehow my wife completely missed evanescence - bring me to life, so every time I cackle after shouting WAKE ME UP she has no idea why I find it funny
sigh
Not an intended reference to Palmy, but people can interpret it how they wish!

why are we continuously surprised that AI models (eg those on moltbook) trained on all human writing including our science fiction might then output words that appear to match those science fiction narratives

unexpectedly TV One is showing Pointless this morning, sleepy to the dulcet tones of Richard Osman
Happy to chat, Sage!
fulfilling my obligation to uphold the patriarchy, my wife did 95% of a 1500 piece jigsaw puzzle and then I swooped in and helped with the last pieces, and now we share equal credit for the achievement of finishing the puzzle
the discourse around weaponised incompetence is a bit out of hand but I don't really know what to do about it maybe you should take over and do something about it?
Nah just regular checkups on a small fetus!
based on my exposure to the TV in the hospital waiting room across multiple weeks it seems that TV One is now exclusively episodes of Tipping Point and The Chase
Tears this morning because "I'm not a person, I'm just Lucy!"
me: I'm taking a nap, wake me when it's 2027
wife: don't you mean 2026?
me: I mean what I said, goodnight
gamer logic: make my computer as quiet as possible, so I can really hear the loudest keyboard in the world
every time someone talks about AI Agents in a NZ/Aus accent it reminds me of this video: youtu.be/0YM9Ereg2Zo?...

well apparently 11 years ago Charlotte had a dream that she complained to Obama in person about the cost of shipping online shopping goods to New Zealand so I think she might have me beat
just had a dream that they couldn't find any drummers available so I got called to drum for vulfpeck for one show on their live tour, and the people were vulfpeck but for some reason all the songs were too fighters, I had one day to learn the songs and do the show, and no one believed me afterwards
what was the point of bringing all these canaries with us if we just ignore them when they keel over?
