For fellow ARMYs who do the BCD Daily Missions, I'd just like to point out that today's Missions include three non-Arirang songs, in case you need to adjust your BCD playlists.
The Daily Missions only require 3 iterations of Arirang, but you can now add 10 instances of Arirang in Album Missions.

I'm sure it's not an easy task, finding the right balance between Korean and English lyrics. Imagine the discussions they had among themselves. But in the end they chose *this* balance for Arirang.

Yes, you're right. I think we sometimes forget that, due to BTS having the final say in everything, in the end it is they themselves who have to weigh between all those opinions and input and feedback and make these important decisions.
For example, it's easy to say that the English lyrics +
themes, but Joon still released what he wanted. Yoongi was asked to tone down the harsh language in "What Do You Think", and this time he did tone it down.
So I wonder if this "pressure" is really what it is, or is it simply feedback and discussions.
I think we've seen that they've always received feedback about their work. I seem to remember Bang PD saying that the label didn't agree with the topic of No More Dreams, but they went with it anyway. Again, Bang PD asking Joon about his first mixtape, whether he really wanted to talk about those +
I don't know if I would say they rely more heavily on external writers. I think there's one lady lyricist in the documentary, and it seems she's more like someone for Namjoon to bounce ideas off of.
I just love ARIRANG and I think it is so quintessentially bangtan and specifically bangtan at this point in time, after years of military stress, having to de-humanize and re-humanize yourself, coming back to your identity, ARIRANG is the perfect manifestation of them now+

I love how BTS seem to work together in such a communal, generous way... it's fascinating that they'll make alt versions if they feel strongly enough (e.g. Life Goes On by Agust D) or sequels between group/solo work. There's never any sense of competition they just share this musical world together.
Of course the article only mentions one song, but I think it suggests that BTS always have the final say.
But the band did push to reprioritize Korean lyrics. "Please" was recorded in English, but BTS insisted on rewriting it almost entirely in Korean. Lim says that the A&R team was confident "the music itself would resonate with listeners beyond linguistic boundaries."
I've wondered about that English lyrics discussion, whether what happened was:
1. Mostly English > discussion > more Korean lyrics that we have today
2. What we have > discussion > lyrics remain, BTS didn't get their wish to have more Korean lyrics.
The RS article suggests what happened was #1.
and then the initial idea is developes into a general song about loss and grief.
Unlike the Swim lyrics, where they chose one line over another, I don't think it's the same case with TDKBU. I think "you make me weak" is simply the initial idea, and then they develop it into a full song, not necessarily replacing it. Like Spring Day is initially about Namgi missing their friends+
