Glad it hit the right note! And I bet. The workshop is such a problematic space for so many of us. I wish we'd been encouraged to talk about microaggressions in the workshop during my MFA/PhD. It would have made such a difference!

I can't either and the comments from people who don't believe me are wild! Thanks for reading. And it's an honor to share space with you in this issue!

Sarah Fawn Montgomery – ANMLY

Unpacking the trauma of chronic pain and everyday ableism is incredibly difficult. Many thanks to @sarahclark.bsky.social, Jess Silfa, and @anmlymag.bsky.social for publishing this micro about escaping the body and the cruelty of an ableist world.

Since my autism is invisible, I experience ableist microaggressions most days for failing to meet neurotypical standards. I’m grateful to publish poems a/b the painful reality of autistic masking, as well as the anti-autism rhetoric that plagues academia.

A few years ago, I was sent to a hip specialist for an MRI referral. He said I was fine compared to the sports injuries he usually treated and denied it. Eventually I received the imaging and discovered I need a hip replacement. Thanks to Grist for publishing my revenge poem about medical sexism!

This is the last essay I wrote about my siblings after going no contact with most of them six years ago. Thanks to CRAFT for publishing this difficult essay about addiction, abuse, domestic violence, family trauma, and my complicated feelings about motherhood.
