The kind of thing where you'd have to check if Halberstam has already written it, but yes

Given that people were pretty happy in my period to call Gothic novels "Romances", maybe I felt less like the step was needed!
As is traditional
May be! We'll see if it just turns out to be my "should be finishing another project" displacement activity
In conclusion, genre is complicated, I can't spell in French, and I'm on the way to writing about Romantasy by mistake
It's a great project! Made even more complicated by Romance (contemporary) stealing the happy endings from Comedy.
Anyway, this by @annakornbluh.bsky.social was great, recommended me more romance (contemporary) crit
So Fantasy grows out of Romance (medieval) but rejects Romance (contemporary) because for girls, so Romance (contemporary) develops into something increasingly un-Fantastical, and has to be portmanteued back into Fantasy (Romantasy), despite Fantasy being originally Romance...
Going to need at least more power over the whole Anglican Communion to have nearly the same juice though (ditto Archbishop of Canterbury)
Yes! Flawless first record
Yeah, there has to be one-on-one authority linking Religion Name and The Guy for it to count on the same level, there's just too many orthodoxies for it to work
True in a lot of cases, but I have met some wild cradle Catholics too!
What do you mean the Dalai Lama doesn't speak for all of you? Who's your main character then?
The charisma of the Catholic Church to outsiders is genuinely unreal, other world religions must be annoyed at not going the "one guy in the middle of it with a fancy house and good costumes" route
That was the story I learned too, with the "he said Reggae is vile" stuff played for laughs like it was a one silly pose=ing comment rather than pure National Front stuff. British indie music journalism, eh!
"Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy...Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black. I think something political has occurred" (1986)

If you reread the stuff he said about Black music in the 80s, he was actually always like this bar literally joining a fascist party, alas
This entire "industry plant" shit is based on the entirely false idea that some of the bands you see on a billboard and listen to on an exploitative streaming service will be Actually Revolutionary, they won't be, not an interesting question
Throbbing Gristle covers band called "Industry Plant"
Lagging behind, just watched episode 10!
Really respect her complete lack of chill and obvious seething ambition
Jane Don't
Not even the Greek queen called Athena who dresses as an owl, btw
A queen on this season of Drag Race offhandedly quotes the first line of The Odyssey before referencing Gilgamesh, have some of you Ancient Lit people got in on the sponsorship alongside Anastasia Beverly Hills?
Sisko summoning up holodeck Moses for some prophet-to-prophet chat

In fairness to OBOD, appropriative syncretism is hardly limited to one group or tradition!
I don't think he's doing right wing ethnonationalism, to be fair, he just sounds like a Plaid supporter to me in that bit.
I'm sure OBOD do get into "Indo-European Heritage" stuff given that they're built on Iolo Morganwg and he loved sticking in things he didn't understand from the Laws of Manu etc.
You read the interview he's perfectly aware he's doing international syncretism (talked about travel in Asia, "Hygge", and making "native" concepts international), but the marketing pressure to do Authenticating Indigenous Authority drowns that out, even when you're calling it "Hapus Yogi" it seems
