Slander them all you want but you'll never hate RPGs as much as the genre's own fans & developers do. This is a genre where autobattles are discussed as a normal, welcome feature rather than a symptom of deep long running flaws

"arcade games are just made to steal your quarters" is like some "contemporary art is just money laundering" type shit. dispense with these layer-two takes you heard from someone marginally smarter than you. play out run. get your cock out and play xevious. play mr. do!

The good thing about playing Rise on PC is that I can cheat in the charms I want, because fuck gacha mechanics

A man should not be made to work.
He should hunt monsters, crawl through dungeons and dodge bullets as Nature intended.

"Look at my defensive support build with zero dps skills, you see if you don't die you do more dps lol"

"On a totally unrelated note all my hunts take 40 minutes and I can't clear quest without being carried by 3 other players, how can that be?

Can we stop with this idea that there are support builds or weapons in MH?
You are not supporting anyone, you are playing like shit. If you wanna "support" you do damage and pull your weight instead of wasting everyone's time.

I forgot how strong the Zinogre in P3rd was, even in low rank. They treally nerfed him to hell and back from 4th gen onward

I don't think there's a single monster introduced in 4U that I enjoy fighting.
I was trying to continue the HR but I can't stand fighting shit like Nerscylla. The only time I'm having fun in 4U is when I'm fighting old monsters, the main team really are a bunch of hacks

They are but that's half the fun of it. Especially because you are heavily incentivized to draw them yourself. But yeah you need to enjoy that particular flavor of dungeon crawler as there a lot of teleporters, dark rooms, secret doors etc.

Glad I was helpful, if you end up giving the game a try let me know.
It's the same for me for jrpg used to be some of my favourite game and I was a big FF fan back in the days. I'm rediscovering a lot of the classics as well as I'm not happy with the direction the genre as gone with modern titles.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, what pulled us in? - Stinger Magazine Despite a loyal fanbase, especially in the East, Monster Hunter remains niche. Why is that? And what pulled these fans in? Let's dive in!

Also if you want a more in depth review of the systems I wrote an article for Stinger Magazine some times ago.

some of them are janky but they are all consistent so once you learn them you can dodge them the same way everytime. Most of them are not really an hitbox problem but an animation problem, also some are big by design as you can't iframe them and need to physically move out of the way.

break them etc.
It also feeds back in the preparation aspect as specific part of the monster may take little physical damage but heavy elemental or may be able to be broken only with specific kind of damage (blunt or cutting).
Yes the hitboxes are pretty much all everyone talks about...

Yes everything you need either comes from gathering in the maps (mostly in early game) or from the monsters. So you are always playing the core game if you get me.
You can also manipulate chances by targeting specific parts of the monster. If you need a tail, cut the tail if you need claws...

If you decide to play this one hit me up as there's a patch that adds back a lot of the cut content from the japanese verision.
MH4U is on 3ds and playble on Citra.
Pretty much all the games have private server to play online as well. (End)

it can be really overwhelming at the start. Almost everyone I know, including me, had to give more than 1 try to the game before it clicked so don't be afraid to drop it and come back later if its not clicking with you.
Freedom Unite is a PSP game and is perfectly playable on PPSSPP...

the positoning heavy gameplay is gone replaced by a more standard hack and slash action game with flashy moves, parries and iframes.

If you decide to play any of the old games and have any kind of question hit me up whenever, there's a ton to learn and the game explains very little so...

as it's a celebratory game and its bloated with content and with complexity (it has a 1000+ quests and every one of the 14 weapon type has 6 style to choose from).
Finally if you are interested in the new generation so World, Rise and Wilds keep in mind that they are a different games...

a good starting point as it has a gentler difficulty curve and an easier early game. I would avoid the 3rd generation (MHP3rd, MH3U etc) as its the slowest one of all and the early game has a ton of gathering quests and fights are fewer and far between. I would also avoid Generations Ultimate...

Difficulty is also pretty high troughout the entire experience compared to later entries where it's all focused on the endgame. At endgame where you unlocked the majority of the quests it becomes really arcadey as in chose a quest, chose your weapon, go.
MH4U while not my favourite is also...

it has a really steep learning curve but if you stick with it it offers some incredible fights. It's also the one where gear (outside of weapons) makes the least difference and skill is predominant (mainly because you can only hav 2 or 3 skill actives and there are no gacha systems)...

and how you should prepare to fight it, what weapon match up works best, the best element you need to bring, the item you should bring and so on.
If you want to get into the series I think the peak of the series, especially regarding the positioning heavy combat, is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite...

so going for monster Z is to get a fire weapon could be a good idea etc).
The other key aspects of the game is preparation and all the "hunting" part. With practice you'll start to understand the monsters and what are their weakpoints (every part of the monster takes different amount of damage)...

old generations where everything you needed came from monsters without "lottery" systems. I also feel the farming feeds back in the general system creating a personal line of quest choices (Monster X is weak to thunder, so I'll fight monster Y to get a thunder weapon, monster Y is weak to fire...

The thing I love the most is the combat. Old gen MH is a positioning heavy game with limited iframes. Spacing, correctly aiming your attack and precise positioning is paramaount to playing. Even if I'm not one for grinding games I also enjoy the targeted farming of the game, especially in the...

If you haven't played it already hop on Elminage Gothic, it's a classic Wizardry type rpg. The first 2 or 3 dungeons are pretty mediocre but after that it gets better and better.

i love checking new JRPG reviews and the mechanics people praise being indistinguishable from gacha game reviews.
my genre is so cooked
