Mushishi Collector's Edition 2 is out! :)

Hype.

(Also pleasantly surprised to see that the logo is basically the same as the one from our English manga edition, amazingly designed by Matthew Akuginow.)

Tank Chair is such a gem.

I love working on this series. It is ridiculous, fun, and absolutely heart-wrenching in its own way.

Exciting news for folks (like myself) who were wondering where they can watch the animated version of Mushishi legally after it left Crunchyroll.

Also, adding a different link for Chapter 1 of the Collector's Edition since the one linked below is for the older Del Rey version: tinyurl.com/43w5wn3s

Absolutely thrilled to be working on Rainy Day Serenade. ☔👘It's a series that I've wanted to be in print/licensed since I first became an editor. ☺️ The art is gorgeous and the time period (late Meiji, post Russo-Japanese war) was an era I focused on in my grad school days.

Yes, it's a MANGA ABOUT A TALKING WALLABY*. He's a lovable weeb (his favorite book is "Bushido") and finally gets a chance to visit Japan, where he gets roped in as a substitute homeroom teacher. It's part cute Paddington-esque hijinks, part Japan cultural misunderstandings, part HS slice of life.

I've been spoiled having both of you guys as my letterers for some great series! :) Thanks for all of the hard (and detailed) work!

2026 will be my fifth year in manga publishing. There are many exciting projects on the horizon and I look forward to meeting more folks in the industry and fandom in the coming months. Cheers! 🍻 (4/4)

He's entering his 17th month of life, but his obsession with books is thanks to this career (at least, I like to believe it is). Seriously though, becoming a parent has helped guide my editing in ways that I didn't foresee. There is a chapter in Mushishi (oh, Watahiko) that just hits different.(3/?)

coloring books, and attending my first Anime Expo to announce the upcoming MARS 30th Anniversary Editions.🌟

For fans of some ongoing series, I apologize for the scheduled delays that happened to some books during my parental leave, but that time led to the hiring of my "assistant editor." 👶 (2/?)

✨ 2025 Quick Review ✨
I returned to editing after a six-month parental leave in January, which meant that the total number of books was not as much as previous years. However! I was able to dive into some new challenges, which includes my first hardcover edition (Mushishi Collector's Edition) (1/?)

The lettering in the new Mushishi is so good that in places it's almost as if the sfx had been bilingual from the beginning. Spectacular work from @kernedout.bsky.social on a delightful translation by my colleague Andres Oliver in a package edited by @magpon.bsky.social. This belongs on your shelf.

A subtitled sound effect from the new English edition of Mushishi. The original sound effect is over art with rough line art and dense screen tone. The line art was drawn approximately up to the edges of the katakana, and sometimes the screen tone is scraped away. The english sound effect is in an area with more dense line art, so it has an uneven outline made of the screen tone to keep the letters legible. Those outlines keep the tone contiguous with the art. White scraping is also visible.

There's a new English release of Mushishi, lettered by Phil Christie (@kernedout.bsky.social). I adore how Urushibara-sensei utilizes texture in her art, and how the sound effects inherit that texture. Phil does an amazing job replicating that with subtitled SFX. Notes in alt text!

The glittery feels I have being able to be a part of the panel announcing the return of MARS....ugghghahghghghgh. 🫶

Feeling incredibly thankful to be entrusted with such amazing, classic works like MARS, Mushishi, and Initial D. My middle school self would be flabbergasted. 🤯

This might be the worst TL advice I've ever seen. The number one thing I tell students is to look everything up all the time. Look it up in monolingual dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, corpora, thesauruses, whatever! The ability to question your own knowledge is the mark of a good translator.

How fortuitous to come across this panel while eating chè (Vietnamese dessert) that consisted of flan, panna cotta, and tofu in coconut milk. 😋
