From Senator Chris McDaniel: âLately, some folks have taken to calling ICE âthe Gestapo.â It sounds fierce. It feels righteous. But it isnât true, and it isnât harmless. The Gestapo was a secret police force. No warrants. No courts. No lawyers. And no appeals. People vanished in the night, not because they broke the law, but because the law no longer meant anything. The knock on the door was the sentence. ICE isnât that. Not even close. ICE is a public agency enforcing laws passed by elected officials. Its agents file reports. They seek warrants. They lose cases. Judges stop them. Lawyers challenge them. Some detainees go home. Thatâs not tyranny. Thatâs bureaucracy, for better and worse. You can hate immigration policy. You can argue enforcement is too harsh, too sloppy, or too broad. You can work to have the law changed if you wish. Thatâs a republic doing what itâs supposed to do. But when you call ordinary law enforcement âthe Gestapo,â you cheapen real evil. You turn history into a slogan and suffering into a metaphor. And once every badge is tyranny, no tyranny is left to recognize. In Mississippi, I was raised to believe words should earn their weight. This one hasn't yet. It throws around the language of dictatorship while living under a system where courts still rule, lawyers still argue, and the government still loses. That difference matters. Because the day enforcement becomes secret, unchecked, and answerable to no one, we wonât need to borrow names from history. Weâll know exactly what weâre dealing with. And weâll wish weâd kept our words honest.â
âICE isnât the Gestapo. The Gestapo wasâŚâ (proceeds to describe qualities that apply to what ICE is currently doing)
Poverty rates in Israel are still an issue to this day
I'd like to just say that across the long long history of The Jews, the overwhelming majority of Jews have been unbelievably, incredibly, grindingly poor, levels of poverty and deportation that are hard for the 21st century American mind to really wrap our heads around
X is a cesspool of antisemitism, and itâs not just right-wing accounts
A lot of Trump stuff becomes a lot clearer when you realize he thinks he became the sole proprietor of U.S.A., Inc.
Anti-Arab racism and Islamophobia are very real and powerful forms of bigotry in our modern world, and deserve to be talked about on their own terms. We can do that without taking away one of the words Jews have, rooted in the very particular Jewish experience in modern Europe.
Antisemitism is about Jews, because that's what the word means and where its history comes from. It isn't about "Semites," because no actual people are Semites at all.
So antisemitism refers to Jews, because that was how the term was invented. It was a way of inventing the racialization of the Jews, and it therefore differs from (while still borrowing from) earlier Christian anti-Judaism.
Referring to the Jews as "Semites," for the late 19th century German Orientalists, was a way of giving their anti-Jewish bigotry the sheen of modern science, implying that it was rooted in the then-modern field of race science and not in outdated Christian theological views.
there IS a fringe sect that wants to take control of the Temple Mount by force, and re-institute animal sacrifices, but most see them as insane extremist terrorists even in Israel. Most i know feel this scenario is undesirable, and LIKE that our sages decided to replace the sacrifices with prayer.
again i am not particularly big on Chabad, but this is obviously insane and literally just hate and right-wing conspiracy driven by the utter ignorance most non-Jews have about Jewish sects and practice and culture. Chabad is very prolific and so are an easy scapegoat.

funny story, liberals took the bait and condemned left-wing counters for the violence, meanwhile the right made instant celebrities of their own guys for rolling in with metal pipes to beat people with. 2017 was a super cool year
the core premise was "hey Nazis are transparently using 'campus speech events' as pretext to show up and assault students, we should figure out how to protect our community from violence while balancing speech protections" anyway six months later Nazis rioted at Charlottesville and murdered someone
What If I Told You the "speech is violence" oped Haidt based his entire "campus left" crusade on was written in the immediate aftermath of neo-Nazis rolling into campus to beat students under the guise of "security" and was principally referring to literal violence-supporting speech like conspiracy.
in the reactionary mind jew and trans are both personifications of fluidity, modernity, and dissolution of traditional boundaries and hierarchies
twitter nazi zerohplovecraft called trans people "the jews of gender" and russian irredentist alexander dugin called ukrainians "collective transgenders"
Sometimes, when things are rough and the world feels heavy, it helps to imagine a future where we have crushed these sons of bitches and are left to the actual business of constructing a world that we deserve and is fundamentally kind and good.

In this blog, I look at meditation through a broad historical and spiritual lens: Greek philosophy, Hermetic thought, inner listening, and why these skills matter for modern occultists.

But here's the thing: as much as everyone is acting shocked by this, it's really not all that surprising. Fascism always requires smaller and smaller in-groups and bigger and bigger out-groups. Israeli violence against marginalized people was never going to stay confined to Palestinians.
I'm late to this, but wow is it wild to see Bondi grin and laugh at the end of this. It's such a mask off moment in how Republicans use antisemitism claims purely for their own ends.
She genuinely thought it was hilarious that she "triggered" a woman who lost her grandfather in the Holocaust.
these people treat being called racist like it is a slur, and treat slurs like they're mere differences of opinion
NEW: An investigation by ProPublica and @texastribune.org found more than 60 instances of nepotism, self-dealing and conflicts of interest among 27 private schools that likely would have violated state laws had the schools been public.

2. The source clearly had political motives and you hid that.

Those detained at the facility are among the hundreds of people who have been arrested and disappeared by ICE agents after attending their immigration hearings.
All landlords are parasites, this is so fucked up
if it werenât for fleeting joy Iâd have no joy at all
The same white boomers who didn't want integrated schools and don't want to fund public education are the first ones to talk about how much they love Motown. Drives me insane.
