Y'see, I figured the book was going somewhere with that. That it was a statement on the hypocrisy of the current leadership that made them unable to deal with the situation and why they needed to be replaced by something new.

Yes. But I think a lot of it had to do with the move from grocery store spinner racks to the direct market. Part of it was the shift from “comics are disposable entertainment for pre-teens” to “comics are stories that people re-read” but I think it’s manly downstream of how comics are sold.
