I would be cautious about this. the claims it makes are somewhat unbelievable / it is unclear that there are acoustic properties that would allow another human to understand speech (let alone in a non-invasive way) but not a microphone.

Apropos of nothing, I watched 'Listers' last night, and enjoyed it a lot more than I had expected.

The question is how long this lag will continue, or if it's also an area that can accelerate with code generation capabilities.

There are a set of projects attempting to do work here, but there's certainly space for more ideas here.

I’ve had many conversations in the last months about the future - political and social - that we hope to see in the future.

The current global events are a disappointing degradation to non-cooperative greedy optimization, but have led to a more engaged discourse - particularly in young people.

Is the thought that there are common properties we might have a better chance of auditing?

Otherwise, it seems like the translation has the same caveat of 'how do we know it got it right?' that we're trying to mitigate with the verification process.

Are there projects working on ways to turn intuitive thoughts of 'what we want' into the properties we would need to formally verify?

there are a lot of systems where formally specifying the outcomes we want to get to feels pretty daunting

Oh no!

HyParView doesn't have resilience to a malicious node in the system - if you exchange views with a malicious node that only gives you sybils, you're at risk of eclipse.

Working in at least a 'rational actor' if not 'byzantine' model is probably an important property to aim for.

Gossip work has mostly shown statistical behaviors - the issue there is the lack of theoretical guarantees means there’s some caveats for potential attack that have been hard to feel confident have been fully mitigated.

I think we need better framing to more effectively capture the behavior we want

I’m surprised how little progress has been made in the last year on p2p network structures. We have economic games, much advanced network simulation tools, and additional cryptographic building blocks, but at a p2p level we seem stuck on DHTs

With Norse discontinuing Berlin flights, and Delta's limited to the summer, we're back to only a single daily united flight connecting Berlin with the United States (and Newark at that)
