The *real* thing about the Starmer-Mandelson episode was that Starmer *followed the procedures* (which were diluted by Boris Johnson), found they were inadequate, & changed them immediately to avoid future dramas & conduct proper scrutiny transparently & was open & honest.

I think Robbins is the sneaky disingenuous villain of the piece. Why was he was so very insistent that Mandelson be vetted only to overturn the vetters' advice and fail to tell Starmer? This absolutely stinks of a stitch up.
Not that honourable is he?
Listening to Olly Robbins being questions by Emily Thornberry this morning, a few things stand out:
1) Robbins was the decision maker to give security clearance to Mandelson despite the vetting recommending it not be given. He alone made that decision, discussed with no one more senior.
When did people decide the Government and PM who aren't fulfilling all their personal wish lists are failing. We have a Government delivering its manifesto at warp speed, targeting the least well off, of course they aren't doing everything we all want, which Government could or will.
