The next of my FOUR POCKETS FOR SEASONAL FORAGERS is WINTER. Hand-embroidered cleavers, sweet chestnuts, chickweed, oyster mushrooms, & hairy bittergrass.

There is a long & sexist history around the lack of pockets in women's clothing, with the tie on pocket, rising to popularity in the C17th.

Ha! These are possibly too fancy for everyday wear, but nevertheless a very satisfying weight and size!

I think tie-on pockets should become a thing!

Being into plants/ natural remedies/ folkloric stuff (plus the social history of pockets), I recently conceived FOUR POCKETS FOR SEASONAL FORAGERS & learnt a little more about foraging while embroidering them.

I started the cycle with AUTUMN, & stitched poke root, burdock, poke berries, & hawthorn.

Crazy patchwork quilt I made at the end of last year. Given that, in addition to handsewing all the pieces, it is covered with embroidery, I'd expected it to take me months – but I stitched like a demon and completed it in seven weeks!
