I love those so much. I do them occasionally with my little circle of math friends. I also love the Algebra course on Youcubed. #ElemMathChat

A2 part 2 - I've seen some really nice data visualizations lately using Looker Studio but I haven't yet learned how to use it. Toddle seems to be very trendy right now for that in addition to being a LMS. #ElemMathChat

You must be very disciplined in your timing to ensure you get to those exit tickets. I am terrible at finding time for synthesis, reflection, and such. Major failing on my part! #ElemMathChat

A2 My favorite data comes from diagnostic assessments or just plain talking with kids as they do math. I am very sceptical of the major digital assessments. It's tough for teachers to figure out what to do next with that kind of data. #ElemMathChat

A1 I think kids become more engaged when they believe their ideas are valued. They feel seen and appreciated. They all love a good WODB or Notice/Wonder for sure. #ElemMathChat

A5 I like to ask questions about the structure of the problem and how that shows up in the kids' work, for example "where can we see the extra pieces of candy the second friend got" in your drawing? Or how does this equation match the two sets of candy? #ElemMathChat

This is also great for turning students' attention toward the thinking of their peers rather than only what they teacher says. They can see each other as valuable resources. #ElemMathChat

A3 I hate to be a Debbie Downer but it's tough. Many kids in my school haven't been permitted to struggle - their caregivers jump in to solve all problems right away. #ElemMathChat

A2 Context is really important. After Halloween, I taught 1st graders about comparison problems. I launched with a Fair or Not Fair routine with pictures of 2 sets of candy. Kids needed to explain if two friends received those sets, would it be fair or not. How to make it fair? #ElemMathChat

Yes, and I wonder what has happened to them to make them that way. When did their fear of making a mistak creep in? #ElemMathChat

A1 I can prompt students to explain what is happening in the story problem or what it is about. Basically, getting them to make sense of it. #ElemMathChat

A9 I am helping my school librarian add more mathy books to our collection. He created a special section for them in our library so they are easy to find. Thanks for more great tips! #ElemMathChat

A7 I wonder if longer names tend to have higher numbers? Ivy has only 97 while Nadine has 453. #ElemMathChat
