A young boy walks over, arms raised so as to demonstrate his harmlessness (a pre-emptive surrender on his part). "I-I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something! I don't mean to scare you or anything." He's nervous. His mouth begs her to understand he means no harm. "I... I wanted to say, you look just like this painting!" The air falters. The girl's expression, which had remained impassive all this time, shifts. Her eyes widen. Her lips part, as though about to speak, but there is no sound. And the stain— no, the kiss: it blooms across her face, as the peonies do in the oils behind her.
