i'm also thinking about how kephale's role is all about Remembering Things & how remembering is also an act of love & how well it ties with his passion for antique appraisal. loving things & appreciating every single detail & committing them to memory even if these things are broken or imperfect

he clings to deliverance but what would he become once he fulfilled this role? does he even have a Self to fall back on outside of that? can he be absolutely sure he'll find a new reason to live, a new purpose to drive him forward? cause if it's killing nanook then it's just another obsession

it's a testament to his love and his will but it can also be something destructive if it's too much to handle, if the internal balance between selflessness and selfishness is off, if whatever you give away is not the same as what you receive, both in form and amount

i like the thought that it's always both. the source of his happiness & strength, something that helps him stay on the right track and something he turns to when he feels himself waver AND ALSO the source of his suffering, a fixation that prevents him from moving on, changing, growing, being a Self

but madoka never had any blatant marriage imagery anywhere (except maybe the veil but you don't have to necessarily associate it with a bride outfit imo), all of it came from elysia and makes NO sense with cyrene's role in the amphoreus story

the thing is, i feel like in some ways the more unique parts of cyrene's character DO feel closer to madoka than elysia, with how she stays powerless and confined to the role of an observer till like the second to last episode and how her Love is closely tied to Hope more than anything else

i could've made the "it's a madoka reference" excuse for the bow but not for the veil, the marriage-themed skill zone and the ring in the ult animation 😭
