i am also enjoying how anachronistic daki already feels in the galaxy. him "relying on the kindness of strangers" only to be spurned, devon's suppressed frustration, placing the lawsons in danger. he's like the quintessential prequel jedi -- well-meaning, but completely out of touch #maulshadowlord
i feel like at this juncture he's suffering big time from "we know where he ends up"-itis (i.e. from dathomir to malachor to tatooine to the grave) and is inherently not a hugely interesting character in his own right, but i am very eager to see how he steers devon's story #maulshadowlord
maul is basically the mcguffin of "his own show" (i hate to label it that way but you know what i mean) but it's really working for me. he's sort of andor-esque in that he's facilitating the arcs of all these other compelling characters and i really like how it's unfolding #maulshadowlord
on the other hand i do subscribe to the theory that inquisitor hierarchy (including the position of "grand" inquisitor) is totally arbitrary and his rank is less an indicator of his skill and threat but rather a device to motivate conflict and ambition among the "lesser" inquisitors
marrok being the first brother and being pure dark sider Edge ™ feels like a pseudo-revision of that -- obviously not outright retcon but an attempt to reshape a prominent, "leading" inquisitor into a tangible and menacing threat instead of the cartoon villain theatricality of the grand inquisitor
it's kinda funny from the outside watching as plots and ideas develop internally. i think in another reality, they probably wouldn't have had the head of the inquisitors be *the* first inquisitor we meet (and the first to die) when so many subsequent inqs have had impeccable sauce & great storylines
