Exactly this. Mom is in a wheelchair and requires additional support from family members. Kid wants to share his biggest moments with his parents and not punish his mom.
Nothing to do with Pittsburgh. They have a tight family.

Looks like Friday might be nice for a Meyersdale to Frostburg and back ride on the Great Allegheny Passage. 60s, sunny, and not a ton of wind. Need the mental reset.

Not just car brain. The driver's perception of speed changes significantly the higher up you are in a vehicle. I drove a friend's pickup once. It felt like I was doing 30 on a 35 and when I looked at the speedometer, I was actually doing 45.
IMHO, it's not about utility, it's about mode of transportation. We have the right to move from point A to point B how we want, when we want, and to do so safely. Mode is the what and how.
Utility implies the why. I shouldn't have to justify my choice of transport or destination.

3. Become friends with your utility tub or bathtub.
4. Practice tubeless maintenance in the off-season.
45psi might be high depending on your rim and tire size and weight. I'm on 40mm, 25mm rims and I need to drop to 38psi.
Regardless, enjoy!
1/2 Tubeless FTW. Some advice from my experience.
1. Watch the Park Tool video about tubeless.
2. Get the right rim tape, some sealant, valve cores, valve stems, a valve core tool, plugs, and an Airshot to reseat the tires. (more)
Needs bigger tires and drop bars.

Me: "First, it's gefilte fish, not filtered fish. Second, ditch the candles."
Mgr: "Ditch the candles??? It's a holiday for Christ's sake!".
Me: "True, but these candles are for dead people."
No idea how many cases of yahrzeit candles he ordered.
1/2 Love this time of year. Many decades ago when I was in school and worked at a local grocery store. My manager approached me at the beginning of Lent.
Mgr: "Bruber, check out my Passover display! I've got everything. Matzo, filtered fish, candles..." (more)

In PA, IIRC the gas tax was diverted to fund the state police. It barely pays anything for roads
On-street parking in Pittsburgh, PA was between $6mm and $9mm of the $18mm 2025 paving budget. Car parking subsidized by taxpayers.
True, but the problem is that original road design was based on needs at the time, and current vehicles size and weight don't fit with other current modes of transport. Bicycles started the process, but the auto manufacturers took over driving the construction.
"The roads weren't made for bikes!"
They weren't made for today's motor vehicles either. The roads were built in the 40s-60s. Truck hood heights are 12" higher. Today's vehicles push the 80" width limit, are 50% heavier on average, and are essentially living rooms on wheels.

It was 500 pigs worth of pepperoni, with a hint of crust and cheese, and a tanker ship worth of grease.
Last time we had a Vinnie Pie, three Pennsylvania pig farms pit their entire stock on Amber Alert.
Mine are
1. CMU Racing Buggy Ejection.
2. Alleged back injury from taking a speed hump too fast.
3. Fish Fry mass food poisoning.
The only thing better than a solid ride and good workout is hearing a high pitched voice yell "PASSING ON YER LEFT!!!" and seeing a helmeted five year old pull out in front of me and pass someone. πππ #bikesky
2/2 He's dressed in full kit, waddling around in road clipless shoes, and riding a $10k+ bike. Now I know that one data point does not a trend make, but then again, solo rides are drama-free rides.
1/2 We all have our hotbuttons. My wife and I were out to dinner when a group or road riders pulled up. My wife said I should ask to join them on a future ride. As I approached to talk to them, one guy started whining about their dining choice because of the price of the burgers. (more)
Kudos on that distance. I'm a borderline Clydesdale and ride more packed gravel on 40mm during the year than roads. Agree that riding style is a big factor in those choices too. I switched after tube flats on days 1 and 2 of a 4 day ride. I think I carried 4 tubes into the mountains on day 3 πππ

It can be messy but IMHO It's always a value equation. I value the comfort and convenience on the trails over setup mess and flat changes in the field. That's just me. Not for everyone. No judgement here. Your gear and ride are yours. Whatever gets you out riding is best.
3/3 Not everyone is a pro rider, a bike wrench, or a DIY. Or maybe I'm too new to the two-wheeled lifestyle to care and am just happy to see more riders and less drivers to get into the minutiae.
2/3 Then there's the tricks, like soaping, soak testing, or banding the tire to seat it, and tools, like valve core tools, injectors, and charging pumps or compressors.
I happen to use tubeless and find value in it. I find getting the setup right without a sealant shower a personal victory. π
1/3 IMHO, tubeless setup is a process that can be challenging because of the variables. Not everyone is up to it. Compared to tubes, getting the valve, tape, tire seating, sealant, and pressure right can be difficult for some. (more)
As a white double minority who can pass, I need to keep my mouth shut to avoid dying in detainment. I'll take Amtrak or drive until this is settled.
I have no patience for stupid and I have to fly in and out of O'Hare for work a few times a year. I started taking Amtrak, at least to Chicago. Trying to get to downtown Chicago from the far suburbs for Chicago to Pittsburgh during rush hour is a no go.
Last Saturday I rode from Pittsburgh to McKeesport and back. On my way back, there was a dad on foot with two really young kids on bikes with training wheels and wearing helmets. I heard the boy as I passed. "Dad, can we do this again soon?" Made my ride. #bikesky #nextgenriders
Also on the flip side of "nice spring" it's mid march and we already had a tornado warning and milti-day power outages. Normally in May we get a tornado or two in SW PA. Last year or the year before, I think we had over 10 touch down in May in Allegheny County alone.
I hear you. It's going to be just shy of 80Β° here today with thunderstorms tonight. It's March and we've already had tornado watches.
A buddy and I were thinking of booking to ride in Tucson this week to escape our weather. Apparently there's no need.
Got out for a nice early spring ride today. Apologies to all the good folks on the trail that were subjected to my NYRFL (not yet ready for Lycra) early season body. π #bikesky
