Good point Stacey. But how often are these bought, every 5+ years? Maybe people would spend $10/mo but what would the user get for that, discounted HEPA or brushes? I had Neato and it was bricked. Wondering if there is way to remove cloud to reduce ongoing costs. Race to bottom + no services
The more significant news is how all the data will be managed now that it is going private and fully owned by a Chinese company. Many of their latest vacuums have a camera that captures pictures of everything it encounters.
Great to see a grounded article discussing cyber security and smart home. The reality is smart home devices simply aren't often hacked and is usually due to credential stuffing and phishing. 2FA goes a long way. www.cnet.com/home/securit...
Best of luck to the Resideo Grid Services team that will be joining EnergyHub. DERMS is the future, lots of exciting things to come!
All valid points by Franco while going right to the edge of fear mongering. It’s a delicate balance, laws that are too tight slow technology advancements, it’s more a question of minority vs majority. While there are many examples of possible violations, what % do these represent? What % is too much

Not sure I fully agree with this take on multi family platforms. This is a very very hard space and there are few successful case studies. Given Lee spent time with Latch, his take is over simplified and misleading. Even SmartRent seemed it would soon become profitable but they have stalled.

At stake with HB 991: public trust, consumer safety, and the integrity of critical professions. Urgent attention is needed to understand and address these far-reaching impacts.

The bill raises serious concerns for consumers. Eliminating professional boards weakens oversight, reduces education standards, and risks lowering the quality of services from licensed professionals across multiple fields.

For CPAs, HB 991 revises education and work experience requirements. The Department is directed to prescribe coursework, but without strong continuing education requirements, professional standards are likely to erode.
3/6
Continuing education requirements — crucial for keeping skills up to date — are largely eliminated under HB 991. This weakens the obligation for licensed professionals to maintain competency over time.

Instead of oversight by independent expert boards, DBPR will now directly regulate licensing. This centralizes power within a political department and removes a layer of professional accountability.

Florida’s HB 991 eliminates many professional licensing boards, shifting licensing authority to the Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Affected professions include CPAs, electricians, engineers, real estate agents, veterinarians, and more.
