Meanwhile, Steve never leaves Tony’s side. Although the virus has fully taken over, he still retains the smallest sense of self to know that he needs to protect Tony from any dangers.

But his body slowly begins failing him the longer time passes, making it harder to move and work. The compound itself is also slowly falling apart, with several systems shutting down. He’s running out of time, but he won’t give up.

Tony isn’t so lucky, especially with his bite so close to his brain. Before the infection can fully take over, he injects the same serum into himself, slowing, but not stopping the spread of the virus. He has to keep a constant schedule of injections to stay on task and continue searching for a cure

Tony works on a cure for the outbreak, but the compound is breached before he can synthesize a full vaccine. He can’t save Steve from zombification, but a jab with a synthesized serum prevents any decay.
