' โNobody has defended civility and multiculturalism, or a liberal vision of Britain as a humanist power that supports human rights and the rule of law,โ he says.'
Much to be angry with Blue Labour about, but this is right up there.
And lo! A great roar was heard, like unto the mightiest choir ever heard.
And unbelievers were sore afraid and did ask,
"What sayeth this fearsome throng?"
And came the answer,
"I never felt more like singing the blues, than when Everton win and Liverpool lose.

Let's see now. A major selling point was basic competence after years of Brexit chaos/Johnson/Truss.
How's that going then....?

Absolutely. Makes no sense to say Trump is allied to any party or tribe.
To him everybody else - his family included - are just extras in the TV show of his life.
So... a certain grim satisfaction that these people are not completely immune to the consequences of their actions.
Mixed with rather more dread of how much damage they (he) will cause as they flail around in rage at reality.
Glad I posted in that case.
Half way through typing I stopped and thought, he's probably heard this from ten other better placed people.
Looking forward to reading it. ๐
I didn't see many songs halted mid way to just to correct something in a decade or so of roadying.
Elton John being the only other example I can think of.
But your post has helped explain an old memory!
I'll get a pre-order in. ๐

That's always stayed with me. One, because I love the song. Two, for the attention to pronunciation, which surprised me.
But mainly because he stopped the song. Stopping a number / big production is not something that comes naturally even to a big star (in my experience).

He stopped the whole band (took a bar or two, large band, full string section and so on) and said "Agh I promised myself I'd sing that the English way").
Some more chat, quick reset and straight into take 2 (the version in the video, I believe) and this time used the UK pronunciation. ๐

(Apologies if this incident already covered in your book).
You've just reminded me of an incident in the recording of his unplugged session.
During take 1 of "I can't make you love me" he sang "don't patronize" the Bonnie Raitt/ US pronunciation.

Normally when someone is described as a 'dead-eyed sociopath' you can safely assume there is some element of metaphor, or a little exaggeration at least.
But with Stephen M, it's just a really short, 100% accurate pen portrait.
Once again, the stock market is not "the economy;" it's a mood ring for the plutocracy

A description of an old, old situation.
But describing a form of presentation that resonated with me.
And some pretty solid practical suggestions towards the end of the article as well.

Tuesday will continue as normal and should be treated with all the usual suspicion.
Thank you for your attention in this calendrical matter.
This has to be the worst rendition of Baker Street I've ever heard.
I personally am part of the community of people with special needs kids, and I can tell you our baseball games are the most cross-cutting experience in my life. We got dudes in camo, leftist college professors, all races, religions, etc. Everyone cheers for everyone elseโs kids.
Fascinating and horrifying article.

To me the 'asset in place' line seems fairly transparent.
Which is just to say, we all bring different things to our readings of lines, I guess. I'll be baffled by other stuff.
Is that a consideration for you when writing? Or do you just trust your internal 'what is common knowledge' context clock?
