This is problematic, but also revealing, because earlier those same voices denied altogether the existence of such global power and talked about democracy and sovereignty of all countries.
Posts where EU flex their imperial muscles, talking about the EU needing to defeat China, beat up Russia and take over the US role of the world's leader gain 1000s of likes actoss Social media platforms.
To be clear, I am referring here to EU leaders and citizens calls for Europe to rise up as an imperial power, as the US was/is, rather than the obvious need for Europe to stop being the US dependent - something that it should have done already.
The calls for the EU to take on the world's leadership, that we are seeing is troubling in so many ways.
It doesn't only speak of the EU's will to dominate, but also about its deeply rooted colonial minset that the global South is incompetent & require a master, "the Leader of the Free World".
Maybe we don't need to think in terms of "poles" and sides, but pluriverse worlds of collaboration that embrace and celebrate differences.
But we have to be conscident of the fact that that metaphorical "house" has been built on the scaffolding made up of violence and domination.
This one truth doesn't exclude others. The decades of a kinder version of domination has birthed some - even many, even if not equally for all - good, prosperity and equality, and it is this ideology that the Liberals and Democrats of our time don't want to give up, and understandably so.
And no, things haven't changed now, things have just been revealed for all to see. After all those technologies and ideologies are the very foundation of the West. It's masks that have fallen.
What we are seeing in these latest days of the Western world as we know it, is its full, unbeaten commitment to the ideologies and technologies of domination including colonialism, genocide, plunder, racism, and fascism. (1/2)
