Yeah, Developing Calluses on your fingers is something you have to work through on any stringed instrument unless you’re playing piano or hammer dulcimer. I dropped my pick in the middle of a fairly aggressive song live. I did this with knuckles. My fingers were fine.

I haven’t drawn anything in a month or so. I have played a lot of guitar though.

Ha! Me too. I bought a lot of a 78 record collection from the same sale also. If you collect honky tonk or Western swing 78’s it was pretty impressive. It was informative about the past life of that guitar a little. I assume that guitar is no stranger to a Bob Wills song.

It was underneath a woman’s bed for 50 years and is in insanely good condition. It’s pretty amazing. Jerry Byrd riffs all day on this.

It is! I also live in one. 130 years old.

She’s a good girl. Gertie has the prettiest blue eyes. Kind of rare for a border collie.

This girl has been catching rabbits in the back yard and proudly bringing them to me a lot this week. She doesn’t seem to be hurting them but she’s definitely traumatizing them. It’s impressive though. She’s so fast.

I totally agree with having one person to deal with. I expect to do some revisions and I’ll usually do two or three versions just to give them some choice. All I want from anyone who commissions some of my work is to be hip to what I do and not expect me to draw exactly like Rick Griffin.

Yeah. It can be demoralizing to satisfying everyone’s critiques especially after starting over multiple times. I see the value of not drawing on paper.

The black and white version of everything i do is usually my favorite. I usually add color to something when I feel I’ve done a bad drawing and hope color might “fix”it.

I tend to collect bizarre antiques. Mostly books, vinyl and 78’s though.

Thanks. This one was damaged while the paint was a bit wet. It’s part of it now.

Thanks! I was glad to finally get this one done. Typically, most musicians don’t have many opinions about art aside from its cool or it’s not cool but in this case I had to draw this logo from scratch 5 times to satisfy everyone’s editorial input on my work.

These houses continually seem to stop me in my tracks to stare at them for a moment in amazement daily. The details kill me. They are definitely livable art that was built to last. My next door neighbors still heat their giant 1880’s home with a 100+year old wood burning furnace in their basement!

They are surprisingly affordable if you’re looking in the Midwest and are ok with doing a bit of work on one. Utility bills can be alarming though.

In the 1880’s, they most definitely were expensive, status symbol homes. Today, price varies, depending on how well the home was maintained. I own a similar, giant old house that is 130 years old and needed lots of work so it was pretty cheap compared to new construction. It fits me.

I love the houses in my neighborhood. The design and craftsmanship of Victorian architecture is pretty amazing. I’m a real sucker for anything with a real palatable sense of history though.

Ha! I’ll take that into account next time she scribbles in my sketchbook.

Not exactly. My daughter did it when she was 3 or 4. She has autism (level 3) and when she was really young she was a real handful. She’s 17 now.

An old acrylic painting. All the dark streaks and drips are a result of someone throwing a cup of coffee at it. I guess it’s just part of the painting now.

I forget who this was. They were a surfy instrumental punk band who all wore masks playing at nightshop in Bloomington normal Illinois 10 years ago. They set shit aflame at the end of their set. It was all kind of nuts.

I’m not actually sure how much range I have. There is an ongoing theme in my work. It’s a lot of animal headed people.

Thanks Derek!

Yep. I did this on all the walls in the kitchen. It’s kind of nuts. I couldn’t stop. It’s my main problem when making art. I never know when to step away until I’m overwhelmed.

My wife asked me to paint the kitchen so…..

This was in my last house. It’s been painted over since. Once I figure out a scaffolding situation that’s safe I’m going to do this in the foyer of my house. I’ve got a wall that 10 feet square, 12 feet of the ground above a staircase that this will go on.
