Excited and still a bit bewildered to say that this week I defended my doctoral dissertation! A huge thank you has to go to my supervisor, committee members, and my colleagues @irssubc.bsky.social for all of their support these past 4.5 years. It's fun to be on this side of the cake for once!

💠Growing interest in this field with diverse applications and methodologies

💠Many reports of strong positive interannual relationships between tree-ring width and vegetation indices

💠Growth trends shows mixed outcomes, as tree-ring growth and vegetation indices often decouple over longer periods

How do different disturbances impact a stream and its riparian zone?
This August, a Water and Fish project used drones equipped with high resolution LiDAR and thermal sensors to survey 24 streams across four site types:
🌲 Forested
🔥 Fire-affected
🪵 Harvested

✨Research Highlights:

The approach keeps existing stand boundaries without land cover change and updates regenerating areas.

Stands grew larger and more complex over time, approaching pre-disturbance values.

The algorithm is transparent and efficient, ideal for forest change monitoring.
