Figure showing number of competitive grants mentioning women from 2015-2025. The number was rising until recently, with a precipitous drop in the last year.

At the end of 2024, the National Academies put out a report concluding the NIH has woefully underfunded women’s health research, and they suggested $15 B should be invested over the next 5 years.

Here’s what’s happened instead. Hard to study women’s health if you can’t say “women.”

What is striking to me about these is that the Justices candidly admit they are imposing their will without understanding the merits of the case.

The neural mechanisms supporting the rise and fall of maternal aggression - Nature In mice, female aggression is governed by an amygdala–to–medial hypothalamus circuit that is strengthened during pregnancy and is dynamically amplified by oxytocin during lactation.

What has changed in mama bear brain (well, actually mice) to make her risk her life to attack a potential threat and protect her young? Oxytocin is the key! Happy to share our new study led by two awesome postdocs: Takashi Yamaguchi and Rongzhen Yan.

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion.

If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over.

And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

Massive budget cuts for US science proposed again by Trump administration Budget proposal would also curb federal payments for scientific publishing.

BREAKING: In response to huge cuts in Trump's budget request, NSF is shuttering its SBE directorate. Staff will be transferred to other parts of the agency and "grants that align with Administration priorities" will be maintained.

Disconcerting to see the NYT write an article like this on the heels of overhearing an undergrad student in passing the other day say “yeah tbh I don’t think my female professor should be allowed to vote”

NPR: Trump's VA killed a home loan program. Vets are now losing their homes because of it

NPR: Trump's VA killed a home loan program. Vets are now losing their homes because of it

Trump was warned this would happen. He did it anyway.

Now, over 10,000 Veterans lost their homes. 90,000 more are on track for foreclosure. On top of cutting jobs, slashing benefits and throwing our heroes into an unnecessary war.

The most anti-Veteran President in history.

Wow, this is frightening: 95,000 scientists and researchers, gone. Brilliant minds no longer working to protect, help, and save people and the planet.

Don't take this sitting down.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

Survivors don’t owe anyone their stories. Yet, when women do share, delayed disclosures can be met w/ questions/doubt. Research on #betrayaltrauma + #institutionacourage can help people understand silence + action. @jjfreyd.bsky.social theconversation.com/psychologica...

‘Trump is aiming for dictatorship’. That’s the verdict of the world’s most credible democracy watchdog | Martin Gelin Sweden’s V-Dem Institute warns that the US is no longer a liberal democracy. And autocracy is creeping across Europe too, says writer Martin Gelin

"US democracy is now back at the worst recorded level since 1965, when US civil rights laws first introduced de facto universal suffrage. All progress made since then has been erased, according to the report."

The VA lost about 700 social workers and 500 psychologists and psychiatrists over the course of 2025 — a significant change for an agency that was adding mental health staffers nearly every month leading up to Trump’s return to office.

“They got money for wars, but can’t feed the poor.” — Tupac said it years ago… and here we are.

The Pentagon is now asking for an additional $200 BILLION for this war.

We always find the money for war.

But when it comes to housing, healthcare, or feeding people? Suddenly it’s crickets.
