This is a picture of me last week, on my way to accept the Johnson County Trans Day of Visibility proclamation. I'm wearing a favorite skirt that I got from a friend in college, an embroidered top, and amazing earrings in the colors of the non-binary flag made by @wapshkankwet.bsky.social

At our best, we are growing, experimenting, discovering, and changing. This is true for our gender, our relationships, our politics, every part of us. If we're lucky, we have people around us who are patient and who encourage us, who call us in and who inspire us.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, and I am so grateful to be in community with so many people who encourage me to be myself and to continue becoming. One of the most important things I've learned is that we are not one-dimensional or fixed in our selves.

What Are Anarchist Calisthenics?

I really enjoy Not Quite Quorum for its engaging look into Iowa City government through the conversations of councilors Laura Bergus and Oliver Weilein. This episode gets into ethics and moral courage, which made me very happy: open.spotify.com/episode/5mxq...

I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

"A hallmark of a home is that it is a place where you feel safe; if you don’t feel safe, it’s not home. For some, leaving the lives they built here is the only option. But I don’t want to leave. I have enough privilege to stay, and I want to use it to help."

In this thread, "community" is proposed as a solution to burnout.

I agree, but have a few caveats. Avery Alder's The Quiet Year stands as a good argument for how communities function, often through politics of inaction and resentment, as much as there are also politics of mutual aid present. 1/12
