I've done it with chapters 2 and 3, I think, so it would be much like that.

it's a shift into a flashback from the present, where the person is, in the present, telling the story of the flashback, even though we are just reading the flashback itself. so I could break it up at "and here is the story of..." that kind of thing.

there IS a natural place to split it. the second chapter would still be long.

it's kind of like chapters 2 and 3, where we shift into a large flashback.
