I was wondering just how outside the norm her f bomb was, in the setting it was, in terms of UK politics.

Makes me wonder if there's any good way to evaluate a battery without special gear (and you shouldn't try to take it apart at home). I think that's the other side of the problem, because it means thrift shops can't check them, either.

Difficult to verify this isn't injected information, but that said, it's a pretty good point. US (and other Budapest signatories) absolutely failed to honor the agreement, and what the US is trying to offer Iran mirrors it. Why would they believe it?

Yeah honestly I'd keep LiON batteries on the list with upholstered items as far as red flag for thrifting. The battery issue is worse than the possibility of bringing home bedbugs or something else unsavory.

Anyone arguing that some flavor of AI literacy will protect women from AI deep fake porn is at best unserious and at worst desperate to protect their automated goon generator. This is prima facie not a literacy problem.

OMFG I had to go and check that this ACTUALLY happened.

Since when does the BBC ever do chyrons with a political party's branding, rather than their own? Not to mention this is during a pre-election campaign purdah.

I wonder how many of us of around our age had this experience.

I remember graduating into job listings asking for years of C# when it had just come out. Literally more years than it had existed.

I really wish miralax had been a thing when I was a kid. The options were not great, we have much better understanding and treatments now!

Libby screenshot using publisher default font settings. The heading is oversized and the text is cramped, using justified spacing and minimal margins and line spacing. It only uses the top half of the screen.

It reads:
A Note About Fonts
Please note that this ebook uses embedded fonts to indicate different characters' handwriting. These will only be visible if you use the default option for the font choice on your device. If you would like to use a different font, please e aware it may be hard to distinguish the characters' notes from one another.

Libby screenshot using OpenDyslexic settings which applies the OpenDyslexic heavy-bottomed font to improve readability for a variety of visually processing issues, but also a wider line spacing. Text is left-justified so there aren't weird spacing issues inside of lines, but there is an increase of hyphenation for words to break across lines. Because of the line spacing, the text uses more of the screen.

Omg, people, please, for accessibility reasons, don't design your #ebook this way. And if you do? Don't make the default settings justified and cramped.
Screenshots of book in Libby, using publishers default vs open dyslexic, which I use even though I'm not dyslexic.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Path forward might have been more clear if they hadn't blocked Burnham from running for MP, which dominoed into major victory for the Greens.

Labour is just failing repeatedly this year

I really don't understand why the UK broadband market is so bizarre. Like I get recruiting new customers, but then they all act like only new customers get reasonable rates - which makes everyone just jump ship every contract.

Just have an actual price.

This has been a hallmark of US military success in various wars. The ice cream ship in the Pacific theater comes to mind, as well.

People like Hegseth never understand it's logistics, not bloodthirst.

Hampshire College just announced our closure.
I've only been here <2 years but absolutely love being here.

I don't know if I am staying until the final closing in Dec 26 or this June 26.

If you need a random wastewater/enviro engineer/bioinformatics person I am unexpectedly back on the job market!

It’s hard not to see Vance’s criticism of the Pope’s theological bona fides as just silly hubris.

But I also see it as a stress test of sorts — can they manipulate sentiment against a pontiff. Not for Trump’s interests. More likely for Thiel’s.

Iran is not a person. This defining people by land, as if every person in Palestine somehow represented what some militants in Hamas stood for, is what made so many feel their fate was somehow deserved

Was going to say this is the UK heritage craft list and see someone beat me to it.

Quilting is a rare sight here, can attest. My neighbor was so excited the first time I put my quilts out on the line to dry.

Man...I don't know. In the past few years I've almost died of Covid, had my career field evaporate out from under me w/ no obvious replacement, & watched one social contract after another fall to ruin.

Also, shit costs way more now.

You really can't convince me that it's just my vibes being off.

I'm not Catholic, but I know they sometimes do not excommunicate publicly (although things like massive heresy are public)

Somebody made an Avignon reference recently, too. Makes me wonder if with all the other Interesting Times we are suffering through we're going to see Schism, too.

I'm not sure you might be giving him too much credit, as in, his wife likely picked all of that out.

Also the pants appear to be appropriately sized through the waist and leg width, they're just cuffed, possibly a fashion thing over a they're functionally longer thing.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:

1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%

Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.

That is how we will pay for it.

I believe he has characterized it as meth in interviews.

I would like to emphasize that ADHD drugs like Ritalin might have the prefix meth in their substance name (methylphenidate) they are not methamphetamines, and a drug test for meth will be negative for someone taking ADHD meds.

He could just as easily have left 'my friend' out of the post entirely.

The body positioning in the photo is really awkward. Its giving photo pause receiving useless school certificate, where JDV is standing as the administrator who has no idea who you are and is annoyed he has to touch people.
