She had to play 6 other games and stop to do an intense boxing workout several times in the middle of the game. "Outbox" gym ran a great chessboxing promotional event today conjoined with a promotion of her 📖!
Went to a chess event today and took on one of the greats - WGM Jennifer Shahade in a simul and got the win!
4/4 Assuming it is biologically ingrained preferences is assuming that no work can or should be done. But all tests and investigations need to be performed before pronouncing the problem a non-issue and washing your hands of it.
3/4 In short, once we have an active individual suffering so we need to investigate treatable options. In the same way, social science has to investigate in line with ancedotes that there is discrimination which could perhaps be treated by policy.
2/4 Doctors must investigate as if there is a new, potentially treatable problem (like an appendix issue) rather than presupposing they are the relatively untreatable idiosyncratic bad period cramps (no matter how plausible that might be).
1/4 One point that you allude to in the end with "interventions" is really undersold in social science - that there is an order of operations to investigations in matters of human beings.
Consider the well-known example of a female patient who complains of unique and painful stomach pains.

It's not "AI is going to kill polling." The real story is weirder. The good pollsters are mostly fine. The scholarly pipeline behind them is not.

Fun impromptu exercise for class - pull crude oil prices and gas prices from FRED and use them in a quick and dirty regression to forecast price at the pump. Clean results, easy forecast exercise, fairly unambiguous interpretations, with a hefty dose of relevance.
"A Resume.org survey of 1,000 hiring managers found that 59% say they emphasize AI’s role in layoffs because it “is viewed more favorably by stakeholders than saying layoffs or hiring freezes are driven by financial constraints.” Only 9% said AI had fully replaced any roles."
