The usual siren voices are giving us Maginot Line thinking for a blitzkrieg world

Hybrid warfare - the kind we actually face - works by exploiting inequality, division and social breakdown. Disinformation finds purchase in communities that feel abandoned.

But everybody feels worse off, could it be that other costs have risen more, water and fuel bills for example? Or is it that crumbling public services, NHS etc make us all feel poorer.

I can see that on the first chart but (and please correct me if I’m wrong) the second chart shows a pretty dismal increase in incomes from 2010 onwards, roughly between 0.5% and -0.5% years and that’s not deducting housing costs.

Isn’t housing cost a huge factor here? Your income might have gone up but if your mortgage or rent has doubled or tripled that means you are significantly poorer.

His party is in power. The representation of the people bill will cap overseas political funding and block crypto donations which is welcome.. BUT has easily exploitable loopholes. All corporate political donations should be banned but this government won’t go that far. I wonder why?

Very good point Phil but you happen to be in power. How about a law to stop all the dodgy donations? While you are there you could stop all the donations to Labour from private health care and arms companies.

Keir Starmer: Where Did It All Go Wrong? review – is the PM just useless at politics or is it something more sinister? Westminster insiders try to get to the bottom of Starmer’s awful unpopularity and frequent blunders – but fail to consider less palatable possibilities

Credit to @jackseale.bsky.social for being perhaps the first mainstream journalist to even acknowledge the possibility that the reason Sir Keir Starmer has reneged on every promise he's made is because he's not a particularly good or honest person.

@richardburgon.bsky.social : "how did it even get to the stage where the PM was interviewing Mandelson.. the simple answer is political. It's because it suited the interests of a tiny faction in the Labour party, funded by big business, who wanted Mandelson at the heart of things.." 🎯

Labour's core voters, on which its re-election entirely depends, are crystal clear about this: they absolutely hate its illiberal, intolerant, draconian, rightwards turn. Hence the total collapse in support. So how does the government respond? #SuicideMission🤦‍♂️

The Courts and Tribunals Bill will remove your right to a jury trial for serious criminal offences.

Toff magistrates/judges will decide your fate.

Chances of miscarriage of justice will increase. Working class, poor, minorities will be the biggest losers.
